SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION : A course on the history and culture of the different peoples in Asia and their contribution to the development of
civilization in the world. This course gives students the basic knowledge of the great eastern civilizations as well as
the emergence of new dynamics in the region brought about by the independence of the countries in the Asian part
of the former Soviet Union and the fast development of economies in the region.
PRE-REQUISITE/S : None
GENERAL OBJECTIVES : At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Understand the contribution of the Asian region in the civilization of the world;
2. Conceptualize the dynamics of the different cultures in the region;
3. Develop a keen awareness of the region’s progress and its emerging power; and
4. Evaluate the Philippines’ strategic importance in the region and help strengthen its position.
