Police planning are important in the Police Organization, plans are good, planning is

important in police organization, because it is the key to administrative process for combining
aspects of the public safety activity and the realistic anticipation of future problems, analysis of
strategy and the correlation of strategy to detail and has the use of rational design or pattern for
all the public safety and undertakings, thus, police planning is an important for determining
policies and guidelines for police activities and operations and it provides controls and
safeguards for such activities and operations in the police forces. Police planning is much more
important for it has a different kinds of execution and those are, the protection of persons and

SARA problem is a solving technique that has contributed greatly to policing effectiveness
which has the SARA model that consists of four (4) stages:

S c a n n in g
(c h e c k w e th e r

1. Scanning- the first step that requires police to recognize recurring issues and their
respective outcomes within their communities.
2. Analysis- the second step that police need to identify and understand the causes and
entailment of an issue as well as collect data on the problem.
3. Response- the third step acting alleviate to the problem, the response that enables police
to use their research from the analysis step to brainstorm ideas for invention, select
intervention options, outline plans and objectives, and implementing proposed plans.
4. Assessment- the last and fourth step determining either the response work, and the final

Assessment:

Explain the term police operation and planning in your own words and why it is
necessary in police organization. (minimum of 500 words.)
For me, Police Operation is an effective procedure for making the event liable and
authorized, and it proves to be successful with the cooperation of the community in the area, not
only in the Philippines but also in the most countries throughout the world. Police operations are
the job duties, responsibilities, and activities that law enforcement agents complete in the field
and it has a foundation which is the communication that police officers must be diverse and learn
to communicate with a diverse public, and also it has the backbone which is patrolling. It is
important for crime prevention which is stopping crime before it occurs. Police operations to
prevent crime and disorder, to recognize that the power of the police is dependent on public
approval and respect and to secure the respect of the public also means securing the cooperation
of the public. Police Planning attempted by police administrators in trying to allocate anticipated
resources to meet anticipated service demands, and it is the systematic and orderly determination
of facts and events as basis for policy formulation and decision affecting law enforcement
management. Police planners are responsible also for performing complex, statistical and
analytical research work and supervising the planning. When we say police planning it involves
the determination of an action to take in performing a particular function of activity. Planning
also is one of the most important project management and time management techniques, it is
preparing a sequence of action steps to achieve some specific goals of police organization. It
provides direction and facilitates decision making.
Police Operations and Planning is necessary in police organization, because it is
determining policies and guidelines for police activities and operations. It increases the chances
of success by focusing on results and to force analytical thinking and evaluation of alternatives
for better decisions, and for establishing a framework for decision making consistent with the
goal of the organization.

UNIT 4

Learning Activity 1.

Using the Internet, a newspaper, a magazine, or any other things that obtain an example of a
map that displays crime information. List the following information about the map:

• Type of map (e.g., single symbol, graduated by size)

• Geographic area represented in the map (e.g., city, state, neighborhood)

• Data on the map (e.g., crime, population, accidents)

• Time period of the data (i.e., list dates)

• Creator of the map (e.g., agency and individual, if shown).

*Geographic Area: Minneapolis

*Data on the Map: Homicides within Parks Comparison

*Time and Period of Data: 2012-2017

Thank you for completing the tasks in the activity. You can now proceed to answer the
assessment.
Assessment:

Discuss the following about the map: (minimum of 150 words each question).

1. What seems to be the purpose of the map?

Maps present information about the world in a simple visual way, and maps can show
distributions of things over Earth such as settlement patterns. Maps serves functions and those
are a spatial database and a communication device, and tell the reader where and object located
and what the object attributes. It teaches about the world by showing sizes and shapes of
countries, locations of features, and distance between places. In the maps, we can get inform that
where is the particular country and or state or city, we can get the longitude by which we can
calculate country’s local time with respect to Greenwich mean time (GMT), and map can make
our own way by water body for large ships also. Map purpose is to help us to make a very large
area look small and understandable, as tools for planning, to help us find our way in unfamiliar
areas, and show us where major places are.
2. Does the map seem to serve its purpose?

Yes, Maps are serving its purpose, for us to know more information about the world in a
simple visual way. It serves on representing the real world on a much smaller scale, they help us
travel from one location to another, they help us organize information, and they help us figure
out where we are and how to get where we want to go, contain lots of information and teach us
about the world, and it serves as we use them for driving directions, to locate friends and families
when they’re out on the town. Maps serving its purpose that we can be used as a research tool for
planning and operating services has an essential where the directional reference, scale, title, date,
name, source, projection, locational references and the legend or the key.

3. Is the map informative and helpful?

Yes, Maps are indeed informative which is a research-based method for writing clear and
user focused information, based on the audiences needs and the purpose of the information. Also,
maps are helpful, maps use symbols like lines and different colors to show features such as
rivers, roads, cities or mountains, all these symbols help us to visualize what things on the
ground actually look like. Maps also helps us to know distance so that we know how far away
one thing is from another. Map is informative and helpful, because it presented the real world on
a much smaller scale. They help us figure out where we are and how to get where we want to go.
Maps can show distributions of things over Earth, such as settlement patterns. Maps are more
helpful as they provide us with a lot of information about the earth, and when we want to study
only a part of the Earth.

4. Does the map make sense?

Yes, Maps make sense, because they can tell the truth, they can illustrate any multitude of
things from migration patterns to fluctuations in the earth’s gravitational field, and every map
must show us something about the earth upon which we live. Maps also lie, they lie in order to
make a point. It making sense thus, it has a lot of information of the world. Maps can understand
roads and subways at new places, can calculate distance between two places, to know wether two
or more paths to the same place and which is the shortest, and can get information about
mountains, rivers, valleys or any other thing, which may come on the way, and we can prepare
for that. We can also marl crops, weather reports, direction of wind, and rainfall on the maps.
