II. OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to;
a. use modal verbs correctly in sentences;
b. compose sentences using modals; and
c. Recognize modals and their functions.

The teacher will show pictures about different objects. The students task is
to choose a picture that would best suit to their talents and abilities.

ABSTRACTION
A modal is a type of auxiliary (helping) verb that is used to express: ability, possibility,
permission, or obligation. Modal phrases (or semimodals) are used to express the same
things as modals but are a combination of auxiliary verbs and the preposition to.

ability to do in the present (substitute form: I can speak English.

2. COULD
USE EXAMPLES
ability to do in the past (substitute form: to I could speak English.

3. MAY
USE EXAMPLES
Possibility It may rain today
permission to do in the present (substitute May I go to the cinema?
form: to be allowed to)
4.MIGHT
USE EXAMPLES
possibility (less possible than may) * It might rain today.
