Abstract

INTRODUCTION:

Density

Density is defined as the mass per unit volume of a substance, and it is

a physical property of matter. A physical property can be measured
without changing the chemical identity of the substance. Since pure
substances have unique density values, measuring the density of a
substance can help identify that substance. Density is determined by
dividing the mass of a substance by its volume:

Density=Mass over Volume

The units of density are commonly expressed as g/cm3 for solids, g/mL
for liquids, and g/L for gases.

Density is also an intensive property of matter. This means that the

value of density is independent of the quantity of matter present. For
example, the density of a gold coin and a gold statue are the same,
even though the gold statue consists of the greater quantity of gold.
This is in contrast to extensive properties, like volume (the amount of
space occupied by matter), which depend of the quantity of mater
present. The more matter present, the larger the volume.
DISCUSSION and conclusion:
Density is a physical property of liquids and solids. We can define
density(symbol D) as the amount of mass In a given volume.to
determine the density of a liquid, first we must weigh the beaker
empty on the electronic balance and we got the first mass second, we
added the given volume of liquid into the beaker and reweigh it on the
electronic balance,so we got the second mass ,after that we subtracted
the second mass from the first one and we got the total mass of the
liquid .
there is something i really want to mention that we had to convert the
mass from gram to kilogram by dividing it with 1000 and same for the
volume of the liquid we had to convert it from ml to l by dividing it
with 1000 and then we had to convert it to meter cubic by dividing it
with 1000 and then we could use the results to get the density for the
liquid.after that we started to measure the density for irregular shape
such as the stone , we know that the density of water about one gram
per cubic centimeter,so if an object has a greater density than water
then the object will sink in water however if the object has a lower
density than water the object will float ,so I was surprised to know that
we could find the density of irregular solid through the water
displacement method,so we had a stone and a measuring beaker filled
with water ,first we weigh the stone on the electronic balance and then
we put it into the filled beaker we noticed that the level of the water
has rised ,so the volume of the stone is new water level minus original
water level and after that we got the density by using the mathematic
expression :

D=m
