1906년 불교계의 선각자들이 설립한 동국대학교는 1953년 종합대학으로 승격되었고, 1978
년에는 분교인 경주캠퍼스를 설립해 대한민국 대표 사학으로서의 위치를 굳건히 지켜왔습니

다. 50여년의 전통을 가진 동국대 영화영상학과는 한국 영화와 드라마를 이끄는 수많은 배우
와 감독, 연출가들을 탄생시켰습니다. 서울의 중심이자 한국 영화 및 연극의 산실인 충무로에

❍ 국어국문학•문예창작
한국민족의 언어 및 문학을 연구하고 세계적 위상을 높이기 위한 학술, 교육, 문필활
동 등을 한다. 한국문학을 중심으로 한국문화 연구능력을 배양하고 사회적 실용화에
기여할 수 있으며 일반 생활 및 사회에서 모범이 되는 한국어 문장 구사력을 갖추게
된다.
❍ 일본학
일본의 고전과 근현대문학을 습득하고 일본어의 고급표현과 일본의 한자를 포함한 일
본어의 흐름을 익힌다, 일본과 관련된 인문학적 콘텐츠의 현대적 활용을 통해 일본어
와 문화를 이해할 수 있으며 일본 사회의 역사, 경제, 정치 등에 대한 전반적인 이해
도를 높일 수 있다.

❍ 영어영문학
영어학과 영문학 전반에 걸친 기본 지식을 습득하고 이론서와 문학 작품을 정독함으
로써 영어문화권을 이해하고 비판적으로 사고하는 인재를 양성한다. 학생들은 영미권
사회와 문화의 이해를 높이는 다양한 영문 텍스트를 읽고 실용영어를 구사하며 언어
문화를 분석할 수 있게 된다.

❍ 국제통상학
글로벌 시대에 걸맞은 폭넓은 국제비즈니스 이론과 능숙한 실무능력을 겸비한 국제통
상 전문가를 양성하기 위해 글로벌 비즈니스 전반의 기본적인 지식을 교육한다. 전공
을 국제통상, 지역연구 영역, 국제무역이론 영역, 무역실무 영역으로 세분화하고, 국제
현상을 규명할 수 있는 연구방법 습득과 함께 국제비즈니스 무역에 관한 실무교육을
실시하고 있다.

❍ 미디어커뮤니케이션학
인간 커뮤니케이션 행위에 대한 기본적인 이해를 바탕으로 미래의 미디어산업과 대중
문화를 이끌어 가는 핵심인재를 양성하고 매스미디어 이용에 따른 인간과 사회의 발
전방향을 모색한다. 언론학을 비롯한 사회과학 전반의 폭넓은 기초지식 습득을 위해
신문방송, 정보통신 분야의 다양한 이론적인 측면에서 매스미디어를 연구하며 취재,
보도, 편집, 편성 등의 실제 제작과정을 경험하게 된다.

❍ 광고홍보학
미래의 광고홍보전문가를 양성하기 위한 기초, 심화, 통합 단계로 구성되어 있다. 1,
2학년 과정에서는 광고와 홍보에 관련된 기초 이론을, 3, 4학년에는 이러한 이론들을
바탕으로 광고 및 PR 캠페인 사례 분석, 조별 경쟁 PT 등을 통해 실무를 미리 경험해
볼 수 있다. 또 전공자가 진출하기 원하는 분야별로 광고 기획자 과정과 광고 크리에
이티브 전문가 과정, 홍보 전문가 과정 등 맞춤 커리큘럼을 구성하고 있다.

❍ 경영학
경영학 이론과 실천적 지식을 체계적으로 교육함으로써, 사회와 기업이 요구하고 있는
이론과 실무 면에서 능력 있는 전문경영인의 육성한다. 세계화된 경영현실에서 당면하
게 될 제반문제를 분석하고 기업목표를 지향적으로 해결할 수 있는 능력을 갖추어 전
문 경영자로서의 자질을 쌓을 수 있도록 경영학과 인접 학문분야에 대한 새로운 이론
과 실무적 지식을 폭넓게 가르치고 있다.
 ❍ 정보통신공학
멀티미디어 정보의 저장, 처리, 유통을 종합적으로 연구한다. 컴퓨터 및 통신분야, 효
율적인 정보관리와 정보 처리 등의 전문적인 교육을 통해 사회 각 분야의 생산성을
높일 수 있는 기반을 마련하고 그에 따른 인재들을 양성하고 있다. 졸업생들에게는 공
학교육인증을 수여한다.

❍ 영화영상학
영화영상학과는 1, 2학년에는 개론 위주의 과목 이수, 3, 4학년에는 영화제작 실기,
영화분석 등 실제와 이론을 깊이 있게 다뤄 영상산업의 고급 인력을 양성한다.

Ⅰ. Overview of the University

Dongguk University, with 117 years of history, preparing the way to the brighter 100 years to
come
Dongguk University was founded in 1906 by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and
pioneers in Korean Buddhism. Dongguk was designated as a university in 1953, and established
its Gyeongju Campus in 1978. In response to its effort to promote Buddhism and encourage
religious research and education in past 117 years, Dongguk has nurtured free thinkers who
represent the modern era of Korea.

Balanced and creative learning experience for future leaders

Dongguk strives to become a gathering ground for passionate learners and scholars, offering
them pathways into the world. We nurture creative thinkers who will elevate global recognition of
Korean culture; progressive, young intellectuals who will drive our high-tech industrial society;
and global leaders with wisdom and compassion. Students at Dongguk participate in various
programs such as 108 Leaders Program to nurture their leadership skills and global
competiveness. Students are always in the center of decision making process when deciding on

Located in Chungmuro, the center of the Korean film industry

Since its establishment in 1960, Dongguk’s Film & Digital Media (FDM) department has been
one of the nation's oldest departments for studying the art of the moving images. It has
produced renowned film directors, actors and actresses. Located in Chungmuro, the home of
Korean movie industry, Dongguk is truly initiating the Korean wave all around the world.

1-2. Introduction of Popular Majors

❍ Korean Language & Literature, Creative Writing
The four-year undergraduate program provides a solid foundation in the theory and history
of Korean language and literature. The first two years are geared to broadening students'
understanding in Korean language and literature, while the remaining two years are
designed to deepen their knowledge in Korean language and literature.

❍ Japanese Studies
The Major's educational goal is to cultivate talents who can play a leading role in the
cultural interchange between the countries. In order to make it possible for each student
to perform activities in the fields related with Japan, the major exerts itself to produce
professionals with broad knowledge. The four-year undergraduate program provides a solid
foundation in the theory and applications of Japanese linguistics and literature. The first
two years are geared to broadening students' understanding in Japanese language and
literature, while the remaining two years are designed to deepen their knowledge in
Japanese as a language, literature, and culture.

❍ English Language & Literature

English Literature is an important base for understanding western civilization, as well as a
basis for understanding Korean literature. By examining English cultures through their
language and literature, students can understand the cultural aspects of our society and
become prospective professionals in the field. The four-year undergraduate program
provides a solid foundation in English works and cultures.

❍ International Trade
The Department of International Trade aims to train specialists, through both academic
research and practices with comprehensive theoretical understanding and good practical
understanding of the world economy, global business management, and international trade.

❍ Media Communications
Media Communication major concentrates on human interactions and social changes
occurred through the advancement of media and information technology. Our department
offers education and professional training to students who will work in the fields of media,
information, and culture industry. The courses offered by our department are designed to
give students the opportunity to learn both academic and practical knowledge about
journalism, broadcasting, news media, strategic communication, and human interactions.
 ❍ Advertising and Public Relations
The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Dongguk University aims foremost
to spearhead in developing advertising contents in digitalized formats and innovative,
high-tech oriented campaigns for advertising and PR. The Dept. of Advertising and PR
also looks to provide students with hands-on experiences with industrial practices before
graduation, through internship programs with leading companies in advertising and PR.
Most of the core curriculum is designed for areas of practice such as advertising PR
planning/management and advertising creativity.

❍ Business Management
The main objective of Dongguk Business School is to help students take leading roles in
the global economy. To achieve educational objectives, Dongguk Business School provides
students with in-depth knowledge, strategic perspectives, and analytical abilities. Dongguk
Business School also encourages students to take part in extracurricular activities and
Internship programs as well as to research academic knowledge and concepts. Dongguk
Business School program takes an interdisciplinary approach in management education by
providing four areas of study that include international trade, business management,
management information system, and accounting. Students integrate several areas of
management study to pursue their professional goals.

❍ Information Communication Engineering

The program in Information Communication Engineering focuses on improving the
discipline and the technology at the forefront of the twenty-first century information
society and on developing creative technologies. The ultimate purpose of education is to
cultivate individuals who can contribute to the country’s development and the prosperity of
human society.

❍ Film & Digital Media

The Department of Film & Digital Media is recognized as one of the premier training
programs in Korea, both for the quality of its faculty and its remarkable curriculum. Our
goal is to educate professional staff through intensive and advanced educational
programs. It has an outstanding and varied cooperation system and the longest history
and tradition in Korea.

❍ Eligibilities
- Nationality : International students with both parents having foreign national citizenships
- Academic Background : Graduates of regular high school or expected to graduate by
March 1st, 2023.

4. Further Notice
❍ Academic Scholarship
GKS students from each undergraduate and graduate program who achieved the highest
GPA among GKS students will be awarded an additional academic scholarship per
semester from Dongguk University (MAX. 300,000 KRW/semester)
❍ Additional Support for Textbooks
GKS undergraduate students will be given 100,000 KRW additional support for textbooks
each semester
❍ Korean Cultural Experience Programs
A variety of events such as traditional Korean cultural experience class, temple stay, and
etc. will be offered at least twice a semester.
❍ Dormitory (Seoul Camps: Namsan, Chungmu Residence / Goyang BMC Campus : Goyang
Residence)

- Benefits for GKS students
1) All GKS students are given priority over local students for housing.
2) Support Accomodation Fee : Dongguk will support 200,000 KRW per month for GKS
