panggalatot at Cebuano.

SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

Today we started our Integrated review in SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY
at 9 o’clock in the morning. Ma’am Lorelie introduced our lecturer for today and he is Prof.
Jason . He tackled about the ways in which scientific, technological, and social factors interact to
shape modern life. He tackled about the interactions of STS, Humans and Sustainability,
Sustainability Development, Branches of Science, Characteristics of Life, Classification of
Living Things, Categories of Classification , three domain of life, Organism and cells, Sizes of
Living Things, Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic, Cell parts and functions, Photosynthesis and
Respiration and etc. I learned from him that the main way that science and technology benefit
society is through the generation of new information and the subsequent use of that knowledge to
advance human prosperity and address societal problems and it also  enhances our understanding
of the way in which advances in science and technology influence society and vice versa.
The outcomes of scientific and technology advancements in the twenty-first century are
widely applied for society's good and have an impact on all facets of life, both positively and
negatively on the environment and society. Most importantly, we can only do all of this in such a
short period of time because of advances in science and technology. It's difficult to imagine our
lives without science and technology. Indeed, our very preservation is now dependent on it.
Every day, new technologies emerge that make human life easier and more comfortable. As a
result, we live in a technological and scientific era.

MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD

It’s our fourth week in our Integrated Review and our subject today is about Mathematics in the
Modern World. Our Guest lecturer is Prof. Edwin Ibanez. We started early today because math is
one of the complex subjects because it covers a lot of topics. And what I learned today that
mathematics is used in a variety of fields and content areas. It has an impact on real-world
problems as well as solutions to those problems. Math is used everywhere, from everyday tasks
like counting and buying things to more complex mathematical problems like processing
information. A mathematics degree allows you to gain a basic understanding of the subject and
contribute to the future advancements of many industries. Whether you specialize in
mathematics or apply your knowledge from another subject, the understanding of the world you
gain on a maths degree can help you succeed in whatever path you choose. We all know that
math is the easiest subject matter. The study of mathematics makes you better at solving
problems. It gives you skills that you can use across other subjects and apply in many different
jobs like teacher.

READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

Today we started with a prayer led by King Normel Palado II, and then ma’am Lorelie
introduced our guest lecturer after the prayer. Our lecturer today is Prof. Gio Gabriel Quebral. He
tackled about the life of Philippines heroes which is Dr. Jose Rizal, Lapu-Lapu, Emilio
Aguinaldo, Andres Bonifacio and etc. he tackled also the aims of the propaganda movement, the
growth of Filipino nationalism and religious influence. This topic was very wide so I’ve learned
that Religion serves several functions for society including giving meaning and purpose of life
and motivating people to work for positive social change. When we say Philippines history it
promotes in our knowledge of how historical events shaped the present. Learning from the past
helps us understand who we are and how we got here, as well as how to prevent mistakes in the
future and steer society in better directions. He taught me a lot, but the thing that stuck with me
the most was the importance of history and the need to keep it alive for future generations. He
talked on topics that are important to today's youth. This was a huge help to me in determining
whether information is reliable, especially in light of how common fake news is today on the
internet. I also realized that everything we have today including our freedom, rights, and
independence is a result of the past after learning this lesson but overall it was satisfying
discussion about the Philippines history.

PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION
Today is our first week of our Integrated Review. Ma’am Lorelie introduced our first
lecturer and she is Prof. Krizza Lubong, she discussed about the Purposive communication. But
before she started the lesson, she introduced herself first and what are the things that she went
through before she became an English Major Teacher. And as she discussed the lesson, I learned
from her that every communication has a purpose that is why it called as “Purposive
Communication”. Communication is powerful because it can divide people but it can also unite
them depend on how we use it. She also tackled the importance of communication, it removes
confusion, confusions that may lead to pains, misunderstanding without a better communication.
I do believe that communication is the only way or key to open the secret of better life. A good
communication leads to clarity. A better communication leads to a good and lasting relationship.
Communication is very vital say for example in a relationship to be open to each other and to
remove the doubts.
Communication is serves as a bridge which connects every people to understand each
other to listen to their thoughts and perception. Purposive Communication can also enhance your
listening, reading, and writing skills because Purposive Communication is not just about
communicating but also about writing, listening, reading and presenting. Purposive
Communication can helps you to become an effective speakers. A purposive communication is a
communication with a purpose. A purpose that we can communicate very well to the people
infront of us. We people, must be communicative one so that we can have a better and good
impart on the communication skills in our life. A lfe that we can communicate well
grammatically correct and also to know the the basic formula in the communication skills and to
have a proper grammar and intonation. Lastly, Purposive Communication for me is very useful
because it helps me to know the proper and appropriate words to use. It is also used in expressing
my thoughts and ideas in a distinct way. Through this subject, I was expecting to change myself
the way I communicate people. I know I'm not good in communicating but I would like to try my
best to build my confidence. Purposive Communication at the same time can possibly change the
way I face people. I think this would be an interesting subject since I find a hard time in dealing
with it.

ETHICS
On the first set of meeting in Integrated Review we tackled the Ethics which is our
lecturer is Prof. Emmanuel Pangan, we started at 8 am in the morning. Before we start in the
subject of ethics Ma’am Lorelie open the new subject. Prof. Emmanuel discussed the parts of
Ethics which is the definition, moral community, rules, moral vs. non moral standards , moral
dilemma, three level of moral dilemma, virtue ethics, , natural law and etc. The world is running
wild as we know it. We do it just to be seen or to get a temporary feeling of an idea. During this
race of life, many pass using the shoulder lane. The shortcuts they take to get to their destination
follow no rules or principles. It’s one ordained in chaos and confusion. I’ve learned so much
about this subject because it shows that it is something that human beings had just made up for
themselves and might have been different had they liked. Some moral standards that connect in
ethics it involved the rules people have about the kinds of actions they believe are morally right
and wrong, as well as the values they values on the kinds of objects they believe are morally
good and morally bad. In the three level of moral dilemma which are personal, organizational,
and structural.
I’ve learned so much and it will help to develop you as a person. In ethics I’ve learned
that be nice, compassionate, respectful, and so on with people. In other words, an ethical person
practices combining their moral principles and character traits into their decisions. It tells us
what is right and what is wrong. It tells what activities are accepted in our society and what are
not. Ethics in a way help us to deal with the society and help us live in it with others in harmony.
Ethics maintain the solidarity of the society. Every individual is instilled with ethics by their
parents and social institutions. These morals help us take decisions in everyday life. Ethics also
govern your behaviour with people in day-to-day life. Ethics is present in day-to-day life and its
list is never ending.

UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

The part 2 of our online class which is the same teacher, Prof. Emmanuel Pangan he tackled the
Understand the Self at 1pm in the afternoon. In this topic I’ve learned so much because there so
much philosopher who have their own definition when it comes to understand yourself, like
Plato, Socrates, Augustine, Descartes, Hume and etc. This basic insight has a major effect on
how we judge things, make decisions, and interact with others. We tend to underestimate the
importance of knowing ourselves. Many of us go through each day reacting to events and just
getting by rather than making conscious choices based on who we are and what we want. When
we do not know where we are headed for and it's hard to set goals, get motivated and determine
the best course of action. Before we can do any of these things we must establish who we are and
this subject Understanding the self, I have learned a lot more on knowing myself to be aware of
my strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, observe and be aware of my moods, reactions and
responses to what is happening around me.
Becoming aware of how these moods and emotions affect my state of mind, examine
how can I interact with other and be observance on how my environment affects myself. When it
comes to human identity, self-awareness is important when we have a better understanding of
ourselves, we are able to experience ourselves as unique and separate individual. We are then
empowered to make changes and to build on our areas of strength as well as identify where we
would like to make improvements. Lastly, when it comes to human identity, it is crucial to
understand yourself in the fast-changing modern world. The more you know about yourself, the
better equipped you are to adjust to life's changes and make the ones that best serve your
requirements. You will comprehend why you act in the ways that you did better the more you
pay attention to your emotions and cognitive processes. It is simpler to change your habits the
more you are aware of them. You can always improve and we are never stuck and that we have a
purpose and are important just like everyone else. That we can help change things and should
love life.

THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

On November 5, 2022 our 8th subject is all about the contemporary world. The opening
prayer is Ms. Aileen Joyce Mendije of Wesleyan University- Philippines Aurora Campus. After
she pray Sir Jefferson Lumibao our host introduced the guest lecturer, our lecturer is Prof.
Lander Victor Tejada. In his subject he discussed the defining globalization, the global economy,
market integration in 20th century, effects of globalization on stated, and global governance. In
part 1 of his discussion which is the defining globalization it is a process by which more people
become connected in more and different was across ever-greater distances. I’ve learned that
Globalization is a very complex phenomenon, basically it means the relationship and connection
between countries are getting closer, and they have more contact, politically and economically.
Globalization has influenced the world in many different ways, like culture, economy and
politics. In part 2 of discussion which is the global economy, Global economy can be defined
as the sum of activities that take place both within a country and between different countries.
I’ve learned that through these connections, economies benefit from the knowledge and
experience of others, and learn how to replicate or adapt ideas for their own needs.
In part 3 of discussion the market integration in 20 th century I’ve learned that it has a
number of social benefits, including growing competition in the financial services industry and
investments for consumers. In part 4 topic which is the effect of globalization I feel that modern
world today activities are becoming faster, closer, and easier than they had ever been.
Communication has never been easier. At the click of a button people are able to exchange
information almost instantly. Not only is the rate of information becoming faster, but also the
rate of exchange of goods, services, and money.     As with any concept, globalization has
positive and negative views upon it. These positive and negative characteristics affect many
different aspects of humanity, for instance culture, the economy, education, and politics. It is
difficult for something as large as globalization to have no impact on a region's culture. Culture,
as a way of life, will always change. Globalization is only one of many factors contributing to
this. Globalization brings nations closer together. Cultural variation or cultural merging is
usually encountered when this occurs.
Lastly, the part 5 in the contemporary world is all about global governance, global
governance unites diverse actors to coordinate collective action data planetary level. It is
necessary but fragmented, complicated and not well understood. Effective global governance is
governance that addresses global issues better than individual regional governments can. Despite
the difficulties that global governance faces, it remains the key to resolving numerous global
issues. With it, we may be able to prosper as never before.

ART APPRECIATION
On November 12, 2022 at 9am in the morning, we have a new subject entitled ART
APPRECIATION. Before we start the opening prayer is Mr. Glenson Bumanlag from Wesleyan
University Philippines Cushman. The co-host of the zoom meeting is Mr. Jefferson Lumibao of
Wesleyan University Philippines Cushman, he introduced the lecturer Mr. Albert Napoleon J.
Roldan. He introduced himself to us and he start the lesson, the first lesson is visual arts and
definition of art. He deeply discussed about this topic to us and how it important the art in us.
Secondly, the function of art, I’ve learned that this topic was very important because art is
everywhere and beauty make sense to most of us. Thirdly, the art elements and principles, this
topic contains the line, shape, form, value, color, texture, light and space. I’ve learned this topic
that The ten common principles of art are balance, emphasis, harmony, movement, pattern,
proportion, repetition, rhythm, unity, and variety. Many of these concepts are not only related to
one another but also overlap to create an artistic vision. Arts evoke intense emotions of awe,
repulsion, or anything in between. Additionally, art expresses the human experience; as a result,
there is a closer connection between art and mankind. This connection enables art to elicit strong
emotions from us. Fourth, the principle of design, I’ve learned that whether or not we are
conscious of it, design is one of the most important elements in our life. It can also be
motivating, uplifting, and enlightening. More than just producing unique product is involved in
good design. It involves giving people a satisfying experience at each touchpoint and during each
encounter.
Fifth, psychology in art, this topic said that it creates meaning and connects these
meanings together. The last topic of art is the art history and criticism. I’ve learned that art
history and criticism is very important to know the sense of arts, to learned the art in life and the
different part in the art. Ancient artwork contains hints about living then. We may discover
information about a culture by examining a work of art's meaning, colors, and materials. The
second topic that Prof. Albert Roldan is Music and the elements. I’ve learned that it improves
hearing, social, listening, and attention abilities. Additionally, it has a powerful organizing effect
on the brain and supports the growth of memory, emotion, and mood. It aids in the growth of
abilities like patience, persistence, communication, and time management, among others. Lastly,
music, a form of art, made up of unique and special sounds containing elements of pitch and
rhythm can powerfully soothe one’s soul. Firstly, there are different types of music, and each has
its own features. These sounds and features are what I admire in music because to me it creates a
new form of communication to one’s consciousness. It stimulates our mind and gives it a sense
of harmony and peace through the hardships that life poses for us. Another essential factor to
keep in mind is the historical context and societal developments that have occurred after the
musical composition was written. In addition to being artistic, music contributes to the history of
a society. Music is a type of art that bridges gaps across different societal and cultural groups and
has the incredible power to unite us.

On November 13 and 20, 2022, Sunday at 1pm in the afternoon we have an online class
in the Life and Works of Rizal. Our lecturer is Professor Mike Cabrera. Before we start our class,
our teacher Ma’am Lorelie Razon introduced him. His objectives oh his subject are: explain the
rationale of the rizal law, discuss Jose Rizal’s life within the context of 19 th century world and
the Philippines, organize Rizal’s ideas into various themes, interpret the values that can be
derived from studying Rizal’s Life and works and display an appreciation for education and love
of country. These objective was interesting when it comes to Rizal’s works because Rizal is one
of the hero of the Philippines that we need know what is right and wrongdoings. The flow of the
discussion in his subject are, rationale, context, family, education, heroism select works and
contribution.
Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda is among the most significant
figures in Philippine history. The first thing I think of when I hear his name is that he is a
national hero. Because I've discovered more significant insights and knowledge about Rizal's life
and the significance of his works and writings to my classmates and myself, my Rizal subject has
a huge impact on my life. I learned more about his sacrifices, heroic actions, and lofty views. It's
beneficial to be aware of Rizal's travels, exile and execution, as well as his social, political, and
economic theories. The first thing I observed about Dr. Jose Rizal's life was that it was
straightforward. He did not chose to live a lavish lifestyle, as most of us would. Even before he
was under Spanish observation, he had lived as simply as possible. I believe it was his parents'
employment that caused him to live this way. I feel that one's lifestyle is heavily impacted by
one's parents. I learned from Rizal's life the value of parents participating in their children's
moral development. Reading Rizal’s words, we can see ourselves. It is the thought about the
works of Rizal. The greatest Filipino patriot, which show not only the strengths and virtue of the
Filipinos. But the Filipino’s defects and vices as well. His life was very inspirational. Not just
any average Filipino story, but the story of a very clever and brilliant. Filipino who is willing to
spend his entire life to bring freedom and peace to his family and nation. I just knew who Rizal
was for this one session. It may not be entirely about him, but the lessons and information I
gained are sufficient to declare to myself, other Filipinos, and even strangers, that he deserves to
be acknowledged for what he is today. And that is the Filipino National Hero. His life was very
remarkable and colorful since the hero's experiences shaped him into what God intended to
accomplish to him. Every time I think of him and all of his accomplishments, I feel pride within,
maybe because I am a Filipino. Every detail of his life taught us something. Every action he took
was for his nation, for all Filipinos, and for our independence. His devotion for his fellow
Filipino is unparalleled. Rizal, in my opinion, is a highly humanistic, caring, and benign guy. He
has addressed societal issues in his popular writings Noli Me T'angere and El Filibusterismo. He
is an advocate for social justice and equality, which is something we should all strive towards. I
believe our society is in good condition.
I always hope I could be like him in some areas of his life, but I know that it is far from
reality to happen, it reminds me of our professor in this subject. He always says that “You can
WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PHILIPPINES

also be Rizal, you just need to study more and take it seriously, read and read and read”. But
what I am doing is that I am performing at my best, making every effort to become a productive
individual in different aspects of life. Because to Rizal's efforts and affection, our country has
finally regained its liberty and freedom. His achievements and honorable acts have had a
significant impact on Filipinos. It is a good resource for the country's education in terms of
promoting student patriotism. Filipinos owe him a great deal. I hope that his sacrifices are never
forgotten, even by future generations of Filipino youth. Let us at least acknowledge all of his acts
as a recompense for all of it, and respect him with all of our heart and soul. The 2 sessions is
interesting for me because our professor was nice and good but his voice was too calm and low
but to derived his topic was good.
