Task 6:

1. Managing Director: As the Managing director is ultimately responsible for the management of
health and safety but the scenario shows that he is not acting as strong leader in managing the
health and safety.
The Managing Director is also not in favor of the fire drills although he was made aware of its
importance but still he thinks that it will disrupt his work.

2. Directors: Directors of the MCL are not committed with health and safety management, they
think that there is no risk in jobs if workers could use common sense.
The directors were expected to meet the legal requirements but the scene shows that the
organization has been issued with enforcement notice due to frequent accidents.
The directors do not show any interest in the management of health and safety and they are
much interested in making money as disclosed by the Health and safety manager also.
The directors showed some interest in conduction of audit but still they were not interested in
its plan and scope.
The Directors need to be very conscious about the risk but the scene shows that the director
think that there is no risk if common sense is used.
The Directors are required to play a leading role in safety related activities like audits,
inspections and risk assessment and provide useful input but the scenario shows that Directors
at MCL failed to do so.
The Directors were required to take strict action upon the significant findings and
recommendations of the audit but the scene shows that although the audit was conducted 6
months ago but still the jobs were pending.
3. Team Leaders: The team leaders are responsible for day to day management of the health and
safety in operations and workers under their control but the scene shows that they were not
providing proper induction to new joiners and workers were not told about the specific risk.
They think that there is no risk in job if workers follow the instructions.
4. Sales Managers: The sales manager conduct one to one meetings and twice weekly online
meetings with sales team and well being of the workers is also discussed in these meetings. Also
he keeps a close eye on the workers during the meeting.
5. Health and Safety Manager: The health and safety manager plays his role in a good way by
carrying out inspections and audits. However he is not aware of what to be included in the fire
risk assessment and also he does not have audit experience. He was responsible for providing
advices to the management but he tells the Directors that there is no need to plan or define
scope of the audit. He also failed in developing a team based approach during the audit and not
carrying out the fire drill since 2018.
6. Competent persons: There are fire marshals in the MCL company but they are not aware of
their role in case of emergency and also they are not being nominated. The team leaders and
managers are trained first aiders but they were also not being given training since new site
move.
