n to consider of a successful marriage.

Marriage is a union of a man and woman. A lifelong partnership as

you have learned from our previous lesson. Many of us including
you my dear young adults dream of a “happy ever after”. No matter
how in love we are, there is no one hundred percent (100%)
assurance that the relationship will last long or for a lifetime. In the
real world, there is no such thing as perfect marriage.
Dreaming of a successful marriage? The following are the factors to
consider:
1. Commitment or the couple’s ability to stick together through
thick or thin, through good times or bad, through ups and
downs of the marriage.
2. Respect and understanding. Considering each other’s
personalities, feelings, expectations, and listening to each
other’s views or preferences is a display of respect.
3. Love and Care. The unconditional kind of love.
4. Humility, Patience, and Forgiveness. No relationship is
perfect. Individuals’ make mistakes. Admitting mistakes,
learning from it and doing your best to correct it is good.
5. Honesty, Trust and Loyalty. Honesty in marriage is non-
negotiable. No matter how hard it is, being transparent to your
partner/spouse is the best. On the other hand, trust is built and
takes time.
6. Shared Philosophy. Even if couples are different individuals,
it is very important that both have the same view/perspective
of what marriage is and what they expect it to look like.
7. Growth. Couples must grow together.
8. Sharing and Giving. Partners should know how share and
give. It’s still better to give than receive.
9. Involvement. The meeting of the hearts and minds is vital in
marriage. Both partners must be involved in marriage.
10. Cooperation. It is a joint operation or action.
11. Communication. Couples must communicate with each
other. There must be an open exchange of emotions, desires,
and beliefs.
12. Time. Relationships will not work without time investment.
Quality time together rarely happens when quantity of time is
absent. Set aside some time and spend it together.
4. Application Let us apply what you have learned.
Choose 2 of the following problems and explain how you will solve it
based on the factors to consider in successful marriage life.
Here are samples of problems in marriage:
 Constantly criticizing
 Silently resenting your partner
 Expecting your partner to be a Mind Reader
 Playing the blame game
 Trying to control your partner.
