PROBLEM:
Do all liquids mix together?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
All liquids mix together

III.MATERIALS
3 clear glasses
Vinegar
Cooking oil
Soy sauce

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials, I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 I labeled the three glasses glass A, glass B, glass C

2 I half filled the three clear glasses of water

3 When I put vinegar on glass A I cannot see the substance of vinegar because it is mixed with
water.

4 When I put soy sauce in glass

B I noticed that the water is not visible anymore what I can see is
the color of the soy sauce which is dark brown. Therefore the soy sauce and water mixed
together.

5 When I put cooking oil to glass C I can still see the cooking oil
on top of the water. The cooking oil floats on the water therefore they don't mix together.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment, I therefore conclude that not all liquids mixed together. And
therefore my hypothesis is wrong and incorrect. Only soy sauce and vinegar mixed with the
water and its properties is no longer visible and they are called miscible with one another
because miscibility is the ability of liquids to mix with each other. The water and oil are called
immiscible because their properties are still visible and seen with the naked eye.
I. PROBLEM:
Does the pepper move backward when we put our index finger dip in a dishwashing liquid at
the center of the plate?

II. HYPOTHESIS:

The pepper moves backward when we put our index finger dip in a dishwashing liquid at the
center of the plate

III.MATERIALS:

PEPPER
DISHWASHING LIQUID
WATER
PLATE

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

1 When I put a teaspoon of pepper in the plate of water the pepper flakes float on the water

2 When I put my index finger which is dip in the dishwashing liquid I noticed that the pepper
flakes moves away from the center and goes backward

3 I noticed that the pepper flakes

no longer scattered at the center maybe because that is the reaction in dipping my index finger
containing a dishwashing liquid.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment, I therefore conclude that the pepper flakes move backward.
We put our index finger dip in a dishwashing liquid at the center of the plate. As the soap moves
into the water and the surface tension changes, the pepper no longer floats on top. But the
water molecules still want to keep the surface tension going, so they pull back away from the
soap and carry the pepper along with them.
I.PROBLEM:
Does the water rise when the lighted candle is covered with a drinking glass?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
The water rise when the lighted candle is covered with a drinking glass

III.MATERIALS:
1 candle
Drinking glass
Water
Bowl

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

1. I put a burning candle on a dish filled with water and I observed that the candle never
lost its light and the water remained constant on its level.
2. When I put/cover the lighted candle with a clear drinking glass I noticed that the light of
the candle was lost and the water rose.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment, I therefore concluded that the water rose when the lighted
candle was covered with a drinking glass. There are two different effects: chemical and physical
effects. Chemical-oxygen and paraffin react the burning produce water and carbon-dioxide.
Because twice as much oxygen is burned than carbon dioxide released, the air volume
decreases.
Physical- the candle heats the air and expands it. This cancels the depletion of the oxygen
temporarily and the water level stays down. When the oxygen is depleted, the candle goes out
and the air cools. The volume of the air decreases and the water rises.
I.PROBLEM:
Does the spoon get heated if put inside a glass of hot water?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
The spoon get heated when it touches the hot water glass

III.MATERIALS:
Spoon, glass, hot water

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials, I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 When I pour the hot water in a glass I observed that there is a steam going up

2 When I pour the hot water in a glass the temperature is cold.

3 After 2 minutes I touched the spoon, the temperature gets high and the spoon was warm.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that the temperature of the hot water is
high and the spoon becomes warm. I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct.
Conduction heat transfer is the transfer of heat through matter (solids, liquids, gasses) without
bulk motion of the matter. The heat from the hot water transfers directly to the surface of the
spoon.

I.PROBLEM:
Does the soil change the appearance/color of the water?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
The soil changes the appearance/color of the water

III.MATERIALS:
Water
Clear glass
Soil

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials,I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 When I put the water in a clear glass the color is clear.

2 When I put soil on the water it becomes cloudy/blurred.

3 When I stirred it, the color changed and became brown.

4 After a while the soil suspended at the bottom.

V.CONCLUSION:
After Conducting the experiment I therefore concluded that the water's appearance/color
changed. Therefore I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct. In addition to with my
observation after leaving the mixture I prepared the soil suspended at the bottom. The mixture
that I prepared is called colloid mixture.

I.PROBLEM:
Does the hot water dissolve the powdered coffee faster than cold water?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
The hot water dissolves the powdered coffee faster than cold water.

III.MATERIALS:
Hot water
Cold water
2 cleared glasses
Spoon
Powdered coffee

IV.DATA AND OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials, I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 When I put the hot water and cold water in the glasses the water is clear

2 When I put in the same amount of coffee I noticed that the hot water dissolves the powdered
coffee faster.

3 The color in both glasses became brownish and I noticed circular bubbles on top of cold
water. Well maybe because of acid that is present in powdered coffee.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that the hot water dissolves the powdered
coffee faster than cold water. I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct. Temperature is
one of the factors to easily dissolve solute.

I.PROBLEM:
Does stirring help in dissolving solute faster?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
Stirring helps in dissolving solute faster

III.MATERIALS:
Iodized salt, crystal salt, small cube of bar soap, water

IV.DATA & OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials, I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 When I put the water in the 3 clear glasses it was clear

2 I put a small amount of iodized salt in glass A and I put a small amount of crystal salt in glass
B and a small cube of bar soap in glass C.

3 I stirred the solute in each glasses and I noticed that iodized salt dissolve slower compared to
crystal of salt which
NOTE: YOU NEED 2 TOY CARS

1. TRY TO PUSH THE TOY CAR A TO SMOOTH SURFACE RECORD WHAT YOU
OBSERVED
2. TRY TO PUSH THE TOY CAR B AT ROUGH SURFACE AND RECORD YOUR
OBSERVATION
3. DO IT NOW BASANG LATER NA YUNG TYPING

I.PROBLEM:
Does the toy car move faster on a smooth surface? -GOOD

Or How will objects move when surfaces are rough and smooth?

II.HYPOTHESIS:
The toy car moves faster on a smooth surface and moves slowly in rough surface

III.MATERIALS:
Cardboard covered with plastic, rough towell, 2 toy cars

IV.DATA & OBSERVATION:

After preparing the materials, I immediately proceeded with the experiment. I observed the
following.

1 When I moved the toy car in the cardboard covered in plastic I noticed that it’s moving fast

2 When I moved the toy car in the rough towel I noticed that the toy car was moving slowly well
maybe because of the rough towel.

3 The toy car was faster on the cardboard covered with plastic than the rough towel.

V.CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that the toy car moves faster on a smooth
surface and moves slowly on a rough surface. I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct.
The nature of materials affects friction. Firm hard materials or surfaces produce less friction than
soft and rough materials or surfaces. Smooth surfaces produce less friction than rough
surfaces. Rough surfaces offer great resistance on the moving objects compared to smooth
surface.Friction decreases when two rubbing surfaces are smooth. Just like what happens when
the toy car skids on a smooth surface it runs faster and the toy car in a soft towel which is also
rough the movement is slow.

I. PROBLEM:

Does the temperature of an object differ before and after heating?

II. HYPOTHESIS:
The temperature of an object differ before and after heating

III. MATERIALS:

Water,nail,spoon,thermometer

IV. DATA AND OBSERVATION:

Material temperature

Before Heating After Heating

Water low high

spoon low high

nail low high

1. Before I put the spoon and nail in the water the temperature is low
2. After heating the water I Noticed that its temperature becomes high
3. I put the nail and spoon in the heated water
4. After leaving the nail and spoon for 2 minutes I noticed that the temperature of
the nail and spoon became higher.

V. CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that the temperature of an object differs
before and after heating. I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct.
Temperature is the hotness and coldness of an object. When objects are cold the temperature is
low but when the objects get warmed/heated the temperature of the objects are high. That
proves my conclusion after conducting the experiment the temperature of the nail, water and
spoon became higher when it heated. So their temperature differs from low to high.
I. PROBLEM: Does heat travel by radiation through gas?

II. Hypothesis:
The heat travel by radiation through gas by getting near the heated objects

III. Materials:
Stove,candle, electric bulb

IV. Data and Observation:

1. When I turned on the stove and put my hands near the stove I feel my hands get
warmed
2. When I switched on the electric bulb and after a while I put my hands near it I feel that
my hands get warmed
3. When I lighted a candle and put my hands near it I noticed and felt that my hands get
warmed

V. Conclusion:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that the heat travels by radiation through
gas. By getting closer to the heated objects I can say that my hypothesis is true and correct.
Heat travels by radiation through gas.Thats what happened with my hands when I put near the
stove, lighted electric bulb and lighted candle. My hands get warmed due to the radiation through
gas emitted by the stove, electric bulb and lighted candle.

I. PROBLEM:
What happens to some materials like sugar, wood and paper when heated?

II. Hypothesis:
When the materials like sugar, wood and paper get heated it changes its color,it will turn
to black

III. Materials:

,Pan or spoon,Sugar, wood, paper, stove or lighted candle

IV.Data and Observation:

1. I chose the spoon as my material in conducting the experiment and lighted the candle
due to the risk it may cause when I used the stove.
2. After putting the spoon on top of the lighted candle the sugar when heated forms a
bubble and the color turns brownish and finally after it is exposed to the heat it turns
black.
3. When I put the paper near the fire the paper burned and it turned black.
4. When I did the same with the wood it also changed to black.

V. Conclusion:
After conducting the experiment I therefore conclude that when the materials like sugar, wood
and paper get heated it changes its color, it will turn into black. I can say that my hypothesis is
true and correct.

For You: Chemical Change is a change in color, taste and texture. The change can no longer be
brought to its original state. When objects get heated it may change its color and also formed
bubbles, this change is chemical change. It has new product unlike physical changes,it is only a
change in appearance and size, when it is heated there is no new product being created,( when
heated a wet clothes under the sun,the water evaporates and the clothes became dry,the color
never changes so that is physical change, when water gets heated it boils, but still it is water, the
state and appearance is the same);unlike in chemical change the color changes and its
appearance also changed.
