DETAILED LESSON PLAN

GRADE LEVEL QUARTER DATE SECTION

9 3 February 20, 2023 Sandalwood & Aspen

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Learning objectives At the end of the 50 minutes lesson; Learners are expected to achieve the
following objectives with at least 85 % level of proficiency:
 Locate volcanoes using their coordinating system on the
Philippines map. (Added LC) (U)

II. CONTENT

A. Topic Locating Volcanoes using their coordinates on the Philippines map

B. Materials Activity Sheet, color pen, triangular ruler, Philippines map
C. Values integration Collaboration, social and environment awareness
III. TEACHING STRATEGIES
Wherein the teacher and students have been shared responsibilities;
A. Learner-centered Teaching Teacher will assess or facilitate students on the other hand students will
participate the said activities.

The "gradual release of responsibility" technique is also known as the "I Do

We Do You Do" model of teaching. Before they start the work themselves,
B. “I DO, YOU DO, WE DO” (Collaborative Learning) it is intended to demonstrate to learners how to complete a task and offer
them a chance to practice it with assistance.

IV. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References

1. Teacher’s and Learner’s textbook and guide pages Unit 3 Module 1 – Volcanoes Page: 166 - 167

V. PROCEDURES
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
ENGAGE

Teacher will engage students by asking:

Guided Questions:

1. Can you name some of the Philippines Volcanoes? (Minimum of

5 names of volcanoes found in Philippines)
2. Do you know where these volcanoes are found?
3. Do you know how to use coordinate?
4. Do you think you can locate some of our volcanoes using the
coordinate on the Philippines map?

EXPLORE
“I DO”
(Teacher will use the Explicit Teaching the 'I DO WE DO YOU DO' teaching
method)
(Teacher will do)
Teacher will say:
Volcano Latitude Longitude
So, this time, now I want you to listen carefully as I will show to you how to locate
Philippine volcanoes in the Philippine map using their coordinates. Hibok-hibok 90° 12’ 124° 40’
Atimbia 14° 8’ 121° 21’
I DO
(TEACHER WILL DO)
 You have to be attentive as I discuss to you the steps on how to do it
correctly.
 Look at this blank Philippine map. Do you see these number written on
the Y axis? And X axis?
 What do you call the Y axis when you referring to a map? How about
the X axis?
 Are there number in whole number form?
 Now, observe the data given for each volcano. How do you read this
number 12° 45’?
 To write this number in whole number form, we are going to correct 45’
by dividing it by 60.
 Why do you think we divide it by 60?
 The quotient for this particular mathematical equation of 45 ÷ 60 is
0.75, we are going to add this number to 12° thus making it 12.75°.
 With this data, can we now correctly locate 12.75° in the map?
Teacher will call students to locate volcanoes:
 Is 12.75° found along the latitude?
 Now let us look at the value of the longitude; for mount Hibok-Hibok the
number written in the whole number form?
“YOU DO”

(Students will do)

 So, what are we going to do now?
 Were done with the two examples, this time we will do it together with Volcano Latitude Longitude
these 2 more volcanoes. Latukan 7° 38’ 124° 26’
Biliran (Anas) 11° 28’ 124° 28’

(Teacher assess students based on the “YOU DO” part)

Teacher: Very good, now we will have a group activity; I suggest you can
create a circle form for you to interact and work collaboratively with your
groupmates.

“WE DO”

Teacher will conduct a group activity entitled:

ACTIVITY 1 – Me as a PHIVOCS Employee

Objectives:
 Locate volcanoes using their coordinating system on the
Philippines map

Procedure

The students will work as a group. The teacher will provide an

envelope to each group containing the “Activity Sheet No. 1 – Me as a
PHILVOCS Employee” in activity sheet includes the Philippines Map,
Guided questions; and rubrics

Sample of the Philippines Map

Procedure:
Using the data found on the table 1 (List of some Volcanoes in the
Philippines), the Group will plot the location of the following volcanoes on
the given Philippine map.

Guided questions:

Question 1. Are all the volcanoes found in the same location? (No. They
are found in different places in the Philippines.)

Question 2. Using the Philippines map please specify the name of place,
province of the volcanoes located at by making a table:

Volcano Place/Province where volcanoes

located at
Cabaluyan
Cocoro
Iraya
Kanlaon
Mayon
Pulung
Smith
Taal
Tamburok
Urot

Teacher will present the Rubrics:

RUBRICS FOR GROUP ACTIVITY

See attached Rubrics

Question 1. Are all the volcanoes found in the same location?
EXPLAIN
Question 2. Using the Philippines map please specify the name of place,
province that the volcanoes located at by making a table:

Volcano Place/Province where

volcanoes located at
Cabaluyan Southern Leyte
Cocoro Palawan
Iraya Batanes
Kanlaon Island of Negros
Mayon Albay
Pulung Zamboanga City
Smith Babuyan Island
Taal Batangas
Tamburok Biliran eastern Visayas
Urot Sulu

ELABORATE
After the Explanation: The teacher will ask students to
locate another Volcano name “Bombalai”

Using the Philippines map can you locate this volcano according to
it coordinate:

Volcanoes Latitude Longitude

Bombalai 4° 24' 117° 52'

1. Is this volcano found in the Philippines? (No, because it’s

belonged to the outside of Philippine Area of
Responsibility PAR)
Where this volcano found? (Semporna peninsula in northeastern
Borneo. The volcano lies in Tawau Division, Sabah, Malaysia)
EVALUATE Assessment 1 – Locating volcanoes using Philippines map (10 points)

Directions: Locate Volcanoes using their coordinates on the Philippines
