I have here an activity on the board all you
need to do is to match the given fraction with
denominator of 10, 100 and their equivalent
in decimals. Column A Column B
Column A Column B 7/100 0.15

Very good! You got all the answers correct.

B. Analysis

To convert a fraction having 100 in the
denominator, we put the decimal point two
places left of the first digit in the numerator.

I’m so glad that all of you got the correct

answers.

C. Abstraction
Our topic for today is about relating
fractions/ratios, decimals and percent.

A percent is a number that represents a ratio

(or fraction) with a denominator of 100. 0.53
in decimal notation. You can convert a
decimal to a percent by multiplying by
100 (which causes the decimal place to move
two spaces to the right).
I have here a figure, in fraction form 40 out
of 100 is 40/100.

To change
a fraction to percent , change into decimal
first by dividing the numerator by the
denominator. Then move the decimal point
two places to the right and affix the %
symbol.

Let us divide 4÷100 = 0.4 , now lets move

the decimal point two places to the right and
affix the % symbol. Therefore the 4/100 is
40%.

Percent may be written in fraction form. To

change a percent to a fraction, remove the
percent symbol (%) and write the number as
a numerator, then the denominator 100. This
is from the definition that percent means for
every hundred.
Moreover, make sure that the fraction form
of the given percent is in the simplest form.

For example we have 40% , first let us

remove the % sign , 40 then add the
denominator 100. Therefore, the fraction
form of 40% is 40/100.

Percent may also be written as a decimal

number. There are two ways to convert a
percent to a decimal.
1. Write the percent as a fraction, then
divide the numerator by the
denominator.
Percent Fraction Decimal
1. 23% 23/100 23÷100= 0.23
2. 150% 150/100 150÷100=1.5
3. 36% 36/100 36÷100= 0.36

2. Another way is to remove the percent

symbol (%), then move the decimal
point two places to the left. This is
because every percent is a ratio of a
number to 100. Thus, any number in
percent is to be divided by 100
constantly. Moving the decimal point
two places to the left will be a
constant process, too.
Percent Decimal Form
1. 18% 0.18
2. 23.5% 0.235
3. 100.0167% 1.000167

To write a decimal number to percent form,

we may follow the two methods:

1. Just multiply the decimal number by

100, then affix the % symbol.
Decimal x 100 Percent
1. 0.01 0.01 x 100 1%
2. 2.24 2.24 x 100 224 %
3. 0.45 0.45 x 100 45%

2. A shortcut would be moving the No Ma’am

decimal point two places to the right
and affixing the % symbol.
Decimal Percent
1. 0.04 4%
2. 11.1 1110%
3. 2.5 250%
Do you know understand our lesson? Do you
have questions and clarifications?

Again, remember that:

 To change percent to fraction,
remove the percent symbol (%) and
write the number as a numerator, then
the denominator 100.
 To change percent to decimal, write
the percent as a fraction , the divide
the numerator by the denominator. A
shorter method is to remove the %
symbol, then move two decimals
places to the left.
 To change decimal to percent,
multiply the decimal number to 100,
then affix the % symbol. A shortcut Yes Ma’am
would be moving the decimal point None Ma’am
two places to the right and affixing
the % symbol.
 To change from fraction to percent,
change into decimal first by dividing
the numerator by the denominator,
move the decimal point two places to
the right, then affix the % symbol.
Is that clear?
Any questions?

D. Application
Since you understand our lesson and you
don’t have any question, answer this problem
in your notebook for 10 mins. After10 mins
you will pass your notebook.

Rieltea is Eli and Audi’s favorite coffee

house. They are aware that the shop follows
a color coding scheme with regard to the
sugar level of their customer’s coffee. They (Pupils possible answers.)
use white for 0% sugar, yellow for 5% sugar, What fraction of the usual amount of sugar is
green for 15% sugar , blue for 25% sugar , in Eli’s and Audi’s coffee?
and red for 50% sugar. When asked, Eli For the color coding scheme: white for 0%
ordered a “kape barako at green sugar level” sugar, yellow for 5% sugar, green for 15%
while Audi ordered a “white coffee at blue sugar , blue for 25% sugar , and red for 50%
sugar level”. What fraction of the usual sugar.
amount of sugar is in Eli’s and Audi’s Eli ordered a “kape barako at green sugar
coffee? level” while Audi ordered a “white coffee at
blue sugar level”.
Questions:
1. What is asked? Percent Fraction Lowest
Terms
2. What are the given facts? 1.For
Eli’s 15% 15/100 3/20
coffee
2.For
Audi’s 25% 25/100 1/4
coffee

3. Convert 15 % and 25 % to fractions Thus, the sugar level in Eli’s coffee is 3/20
in lowest terms. while Audi’s coffee it is ¼.
