DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 5

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils must be able to:
a) Round decimals to the nearest tenths/hundredths;
b) round decimals to the nearest tenths/hundredths and
c) round decimals through tenths/hundredths with speed and accuracy.

Analysis

“Who can read the problem on the board?”

A roll of rope is 0.435 dm long. It is divided


equally into sections of 0.1535 dm. How can
we round 0.435 to the nearest hundredths and
0.1535 to the nearest thousandths.

(The pupils will raise their hands and the


chosen pupil will read the problem.)
“ Thank you, so in what hundredths is 0.435
nearest?”
“Its 0.44, we can round up and down.”

“ When we round off 0.1535 to the nearest


thousandths the answer is 0.154”

“ To round a decimal number,


1. Determine first the rounding place.

place. If it is less than 5 round down. If it is 5
or more, round up.”

“ To round a decimal number,
1. Determine first the rounding place.
2. Look at the digit to the right of the
rounding place. If it is less than 5 round
down. If it is 5 or more, round up.”

“Add 1 to the digit in the rounding place.”
