Study Plan
Revise Examples from Session Slides 6.
Work on problems 12.1, 12.5, 12.9, 12.22(and 12.23) and 12.42

Addition Problems

Block 1, 2019
NEC2102: Solid Mechanics

Problem 12.1. If the wide-flange beam is subjected to a shear of V = 20kN determine the shear stress
on the web at A. Indicate the shear-stress components on a volume element located at this point.

Solution 12.1.

Problem 12.5. If the T-beam is subjected to a vertical shear of v = 60kN, determine the vertical shear
force resisted by the flange.

Solution 12.5.

Problem 12.22 and 12.23. Determine the shear stress at point B on the web of the cantilevered strut at
section a–a. Also find the maximum shear stress acting at section a–a of the cantilevered strut.

Solution 12.22 and 12.23.
