Peanut Butter Lips: Is peanut butter the way to a girl's heart?

A young boy just trying to impress a girl for a kiss. Can he get what he has asked
for? Will he woo her with his wide selection of sandwiches?

At the start of the film the only sound is the young boy walking towards the young girl
who is sitting on the bench. Ambient sounds are only heard at the start of the film,
you can hear the birds in the background and the wind in the trees. For the first 14
seconds not one of the characters talk which creates an enigma for the audience as
they don’t know what the boy is going to do or talk about. A high angle and slow
zoom down into the boy whilst he is approaching the bench the young girl sitts on.
The camera pans to the girl who has her head in a book called “Peanut Butter Lips'
'foreshadowing for the audience. Match on action was used in the same clip when
the girl skips away from the boy after telling him to guess. cross-cutto a different
location. the boy’s kitchen. The shot was on the hob that turned into a montage.
Closeup montages included what went inside all the sandwiches, cutting or making
the sandwich filler, then the young boy effortlessly threw the top piece of bread on
top of every single one.Which made the audience become interested in what the boy
is going to do and made the audience feel happy and determined for the boy. A type
of editing, composting, was required when making this clip because the filling of the
sandwiches went on one after the other without seeing the boy put the egg on the
piece of bread. The scene cross cuts between the young boy making the sandwich
and shots of the girl shaking her head and pulling her face at the sandwiches the boy
was trying to give her. The whole aim of this short film is that the young boy is not
giving up until he gets what he wants. He makes a selection of sandwiches to try and
impress the girl because she told him to guess what she liked and that is what he
did. Montages are created when the young boy is making the sandwiches for the girl
to like, the close up montages are of the boy making all different types of sandwiches
and the girl shaking her head saying no everytime. The 2 characters in this short film
must be young due to them both being in some sort of school uniform.

After a lot of failed attempts, the girl got up from the bench and walked off, then the
camera panned back to the boy's face and slowly moved the camera up to above his
head where a lightbulb appeared and the boy smiled. The use of the lightbulb is
superimposed and signifies that the young boy has an idea. At this point of the short
film the boy has figured out what the girl likes so he can get a kiss. The location then
goes back to the kitchen where the shot is the boy opening a jar of peanut butter.
The camera is focusing on the peanut butter and only the boy's hands are in the big
close-up shot so all the focus is on the jar of peanut butter which could imply to the
audience that the boy has got it right. Once the jar opened, the boy stuck his finger
into the jar and scooped the peanut butter out. The camera is purely focused on the
boy with the background blurred. In this part of the short film the creators use
mise-en-scene to catch everything that happens in this busy scene. The lighting
being focused on the peanut butter jar and no movement is happening other than the
camera going closer to the jar.He opens his mouth as wide as he can and eats the
peanut butter, the look on the boy's face gives the audience an inkling that the boy is
proud of himself and finally figured out what the girl likes. Extreme close up of the
camera is used whilst the boy is eating the peanut butter because he has figured out
what the girl likes and is the biggest part in the short film.

The peanut butter is the last attempt. I was sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting
to know if the girl is going to eat the 100th sandwich this poor boy has made! After
he made the peanut butter sandwich and wrapped it up in tinfoil like all the others,
the location crosscut back to the girl in the park. Medium close up to close up is
used, the girl is sitting on the bench reading her book, she doesn’t make eye contact
with the camera just focusing on her book. The boy and girl are now in a two shot as
they are both sitting on the bench next to each other which is a . No other sound is
playing and there is no talking, diegetic, all you can hear is the girl sniffing after the
boy unwrapped the peanut butter sandwich. She goes to grab the sandwich of the
boy but he moves it away so the girl can go closer to him. Quite smooth of him! Both
the characters are closing their eyes and it becomes silent then a kissing sound is
played, the most important part of the short film. After they both have their eyes
closed the young boy peeps with one eye to realise the girl has gone and his
sandwich has gone. He lets out a big sigh of disappointment which is when the
young girl then appears again to kiss him on the cheek. With a massive smile on the
boy's face the film ends.

The whole aim of this short film is that the young boy is not giving up until he gets
what he wants. He makes a selection of sandwiches to try and impress the girl
because she told him to guess what she liked and that is what he did. Montages are

Is it lunchtime yet?
Even though peanut butter lips is a short film and there are only two characters in it,
the short film is an interesting film to watch because from the start the young boy is
on a mission and is determined and won’t give up.This made it interesting because
there was a lot of work put into it due to the boy having to make all those
sandwiches. This short film made me hooked and my eyes were glued to the screen
the whole time. I just wanted the young boy to get his kiss. Even though this film was
only for 2 minutes and 10 seconds it achieved its goal of being entertaining because
the young boy was always doing something which made you want to continue
watching it just to see if the boy ever gave up after all his failed attempts. The part I
didn't understand was the girl she didn’t even know what was on the sandwiches the
young boy was offering. If i was her i would have definitely eaten half if not all of
those sandwiches! I don’t even like sandwiches and the ones that young boy made,
made me hungry. Simple but effective i would explain this short film as. There wasn’t
a lot given away at the start but then the film then got straight to the point. I enjoyed
watching this film and seeing how determined the young boy was. After watching the
film I sat and thought about the sandwiches and if the boy ate every single one of
them. I’ll tell you something, that young boy had courage to just go straight to the girl
and ask for a kiss! Bless the boy he never gave up until he got what he asked for.
When the girl and the sandwich both disappeared I was fuming… but then she came
back and gave him a kiss on the cheek, that smile on the boy's face was everything.
I recommend this film because if you're one for giving up the minute something goes
wrong this young boy will inspire you not to give up and eventually you will get what
you wanted.
