MORNING SESSION: Lesson 3 Simplifying Rational Algebraic Expressions

The teacher started the session with an energizer to entertain the learners. She emphasized the class
rules and regulation before beginning the session. The teacher encourages learners to participate and cooperate
during the discussion. The students were given time allotted as prescribed in their workbooks. The teacher seen
that learners struggled in their Component 1 Lesson 3 which is about simplifying rational Algebraic expressions.
Though as thought among all the parts of their Lesson this component is the easiest but in reality, the level of
retention and understanding of the learners is way behind the expectation of their curriculum. Moreover, the
demand of their curriculum is indirectly proportional with their clientele. As the facilitator of learning and the
implementer of this Program we really are striving and exerting much effort to assure the learners and the
demand of this learning program meet in some way. To sum it up, the morning session ended just up until the
component 1 of the Lesson 3.

AFTERNOON SESSION:

It is sad to know that the number of the learners are fewer compared in the morning session. Some of
them do not come back because of the distance of their residency from the school. Despite of their attendance
we continued the discussion on how to simplify Algebraic expressions. Terms such as simplify, expressions,
cancel and common factor were spelled and defined by the learners correctly. It is a successful and productive
day for us, the learners and teacher because we were able to finish the Lesson 3. In addition, the learners shared
their inputs and process on how to simplify expressions. Most of them thought that it is impossible to simplify
expressions given but they realized that there is no such thing as that if action is taken by listening and studying
concepts taught.

MORNING SESSION: Lesson 4 Solving problems involving Rational Expressions

The teacher started the session with an energizer to engage the learners. She asked them to give the
rules before beginning the session. The teacher encourages learners to participate and cooperate during the
discussion. The students were given time allotted as prescribed in their workbooks. The teacher seen that even
the learners struggled they were persistent in understanding the concept. We started recalling simplifying
expressions then after that we moved on how to solve problems involving algebraic expressions. Though time
allotment where extended over and over learners were eager to know what is the correct answers in each
problem. The teacher gave them the correct answers for component 4A along with soliciting their ideas in
solving the problem. The morning session was consumed by the detailed discussion on how to arrive at the
correct answers in Component 4A, the teacher was happy with the responses of the learners.

AFTERNOON SESSION:

The afternoon session started with the ice breaker and greetings. The 4B activity in Lesson 4 resumed. It
took time for the learners to answer the tasks resulting it for them to consume more time just to have the
correct response. Since, solving a problem requires a step-by-step process. Some of the students were able to
follow few steps correctly, but most were not able to figure out on what they will do. To address their weariness
the teacher told them the significance on how to maneuver their attention and time in equilibrium. Thus, this
requires focus and interest in order for them to grasp the topic presented.

FUN FIELD ACTIVITY:

Mathematics Fun field Activity is scheduled every Wednesday of the week. For this week we have
prepared 3 exciting games for the learners to enjoy and to ensure that they will learn and they will have fun in
the process. Game 1:” Leap Frog”, Game 2: “Human-Tic-Tac-Toe, and Game 3: “Spell it out with Cups”. All these
games contributed much for the smiles and laughs of the students during the activities. Moreover, they have
absorbed terms and important processes in simplifying expressions and in spelling out words aligned with the
actual lesson discussed during the class.

MORNING SESSION: Lesson 5: Co-Ordinate Geometry

The teacher started the session with an energizer to engage the learners. She asked them to give the
rules before beginning the session to set their mood towards the class discussion. The topic itself is very broad
for the learners to absorb within a very minimal time allotment. Along with the discussion the teacher chopped
the topic into sub-topics because the learners find it hard to remember and they even forgot on how to plot
points in the cartesian plane correctly. As a solution, the teacher presented concepts about the cartesian plane
and the process on how to plot points accurately. In particular, the teacher gave them graphing paper to be
certain that learners were able to plot points correctly. Answering the Component 1: Question 1 the teacher
asked them to plot the specific two points on their activity. The morning session was entirely consumed because
of this task.

AFTERNOON SESSION:

The afternoon session started with an ice breaker and greetings. The teacher continued the discussion
after seeing that the learners were able to plot the points give successfully they have worked with a pair
however there is still a need to monitor them by giving detailed and guided steps in plotting of points. In
addition, the students do not have idea about the distance formula and distance formula and again the teacher
gave them the formula for them to substitute the given coordinates. But in all honesty, they still find it hard to
substitute values because they have less idea about this and they are still struggling in simplifying expressions
even simple given involving basic operations. Despite of these hardships their commitment in accomplishing
their task is evident.
