VI. Introduction of the Program/Activity
Reading is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us.
Reading is the window of the world. By reading, people can get more knowledge and
information from books, magazines, newspapers, and others. Reading is the most important
component in learning process and social interaction because, first, reading is an
indispensable communication tool in a civilized society. Second that the reading materials
produced in any period of time history most influenced by social background. Third,

developments, that over the period of the recorded history of reading has led to two very
difficult poles. (Grey in Tarigan, 1957:1099)
Reading is bringing meaning to and getting meaning from printed or written material
(Finochiaro and Bonomo in Tarigan, 1973:119). Through the reading activity, the students
can enlarge their knowledge and it can also make them wise and respectful. Students’
reading ability must be developed. Everything teachers do in reading class should be
designed to build students’ ability to understand increasingly complex content of the texts.
The methods, techniques, and teaching media that are chosen and used by the teacher will
influence the success of teaching learning process and students’ achievement. In the
teaching reading activities a good method, media, and strategy are needed in this research. A
good method can be an effort of the students’ reading ability become well. Media and
strategy also make the class to be alive during the reading lesson.
With the prevailing thrust of MATATAG agenda and in conformance to National
Learning Camp, the Other End of the School Year activities were implemented in LR
Morandante IS that enhanced the numeracy and literacy skills of the learners..

VIII. Highlights of the Program/Activity
 Opening Activity
Recurida was done to inform the parents and stakeholders in the implementation of
the NLC and SHARP Program. During the opening program, zumba was facilitated by
reading teachers together with the SSG and SPG officers before the classes started.
Parents were also oriented regarding the program.
 Synthesis of the Inputs

For the NLC implementation, three classes were opened for grades 1-3 and one class
was opened for SHARP for grades 4-6 learners. The learners undergone 15 days face to
face reading program with LAS brought at home and brought back to school the
following day. Teachers employed different strategies in order to teach the

competencies based from the given learning materials. The teachers involved have
done Learning Acton Cells for the collaborative planning of the strategies to be
employed for the week and collaborative assessment after each week. They were given
time to do individual and group activities as well. For the duration of 25 days feeding
program was done with the help of the SSG and SPG officers and the provision of food
stuffs and goods from the ever supportive stakeholders of LR Morandante IS. They
were served with different menus every day. With that, learners looked forward to the
activities for each day and a menu for each day, too.
 Closing Activity
During the conduct of the closing activity, teachers were tasked to give assignment to
their learners and they enthusiastically performed the tasks in front of everyone. The
last reading assessment was also done after the short program. It was found out that
there were learners who improved and others did not.
IX. Monitoring and Evaluation Analysis
Through the given reading assessments, learners learning levels were discovered and
corresponding interventions were given to each and every one of them. Learners, enjoyed
the one-on-one correspondence, pair-think-share, and group activities. In addition, the food
that they got everyday added meaning to their everyday activities.
X. Overall Impressions, Comments and Issues Encountered
During the conduct of the program, the school administration, and the teaching force
moved together for the success of the implementation of the activity.
XI. Recommendation
For the next activity to prosper, the same actions must be taken in so that the
conduct of the activity will also be as successful as it was.
