WISH SENTENCES

I. Câu điều ước ở hiện tại

Example:
● I wish I had time to think.
● If only I didn’t feel so nervous.

Lưu ý:
(1) Động từ chia ở dạng quá khứ (V2) nhưng thời gian là ở hiện tại
→ I wish I could but I can’t

(2) Khi động từ cần chia là tobe, ta dùng was hay were đều được. Tuy nhiên, người
ta thường dùng were để câu văn trở nên trang trọng hơn

Exercise 1: Điền dạng đúng của động từ vào chỗ trống trong các câu dưới đây. Sau
đó viết lại câu dưới dạng if only.

II. Câu điều ước ở tương lai

Cách dùng:

(1) Câu ước ở tương lai dùng để diễn tả những mong ước về một sự việc trong
tương lai. Chúng ta sử dụng câu ước ở tương lai với mong muốn ai đó, sự việc gì đó
sẽ tốt đẹp hơn trong tương lai.

(2) Dùng khi ta muốn phàn nàn về một thói quen xấu cần được thay đổi

Cách dùng:
(1) Dùng để diễn tả những mong ước về một sự việc không có thật ở quá khứ

(2) Dùng để ước điều trái với những gì xảy ra trong quá khứ, thường là để diễn tả sự
nuối tiếc với tình huống ở quá khứ.
