Elements of the METHODOLOGY

Plan

Introductory 1. Routinary Activities

a. Prayer
b. Checking of Attendance
c. House Rules:
- Listen actively and follow the instructions
- Follow time allotment
- Active participation in every activity
- Give respect and appreciate the works of your
classmates.

2. Lesson Proper
Conduct a short review about the concepts in probabilities
and percentiles using the standard normal table.

Activity
Activity: “Group me in!”
- The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups.
- Each group have an envelope containing the activity
worksheet for group 1 and 2. The situations on
illustrating the random sampling. The representative of
each group will present their output. The performance
will be based on the following criteria:

Criteria Points

Teamwork 3 pts.

Clear and having 4 pts.

correct answer

Specific 3 pts.

Total Score 10 points

-
Group 1: In selecting respondents on the research study
entitled “Academic Performance of Grade 11
students with respect to P.E Subject
Group 2 : In Selecting the members in Supreme Student
Government in Linao Natinal High School

Analysis Asking students about the activity done with the following
questions:
1. What have you learned from your activity?
2. What is random sampling?
Population – exact population and the group which a sample
is drawn.
Sample – is a small group of members selected from a
population to represent the population
Random Sampling – is a sampling method of choosing
representatives from the population wherein every sample has
an equal chance of being selected.
In research, collecting data can either be done in the entire
population or the subset of this population called
sample.

3. What is the population and the sample in random

sampling?
a. Identify the population.
b. How many elements are there in the population?
c. Who are the samples?
d. How many samples are selected?
4. What are the types of random sampling?
Types of Random Sampling:
a. Probability Sampling - means that every member of
the population has a chance of being selected. It is
mainly used in quantitative research. If you want to
produce results that are representative of the whole
population, probability sampling techniques are the
most valid choice.
b. Non-probability sampling methods - individuals are
selected based on non-random criteria, and not
every individual has a chance of being included.
This type of sample is easier and cheaper to access,
but it has a higher risk of sampling bias. That
means the inferences you can make about the
population are weaker than with probability
samples, and your conclusions may be more
limited. If you use a non-probability sample, you
should still aim to make it as representative of the
population as possible.
In Probability Sampling, four types of random sampling
a. Simple Random Sampling – the most basic random
sampling wherein each element in the population has an equal
probability of being selected.
Two kinds:
a. Simple Random Sampling without replacement – all
sample elements must be distinct from each other.
b. Simple Random Sampling with replacement –
refers the elements need not be distinct
from each other. This will be elements can
pick up more than once.
b. Systematic Sampling – a random sampling that uses a list
of all the elements in the population and then elements are
being selected based on the kth consistent intervals.

c. Stratified sampling – a random sampling wherein the

population is divided into different strata or divisions.

d. Cluster Sampling – a random sampling wherein population

is divided into clusters or groups and then the clusters are
randomly selected.
Non- probability sampling - is a sampling technique that do
not involve random selection of data.
a. Convenience sampling – being used by persons giving
questionnaire on the street to ask the passers – by.
b. Purposive sampling – respondents are being selected
based on the goal of the studies of the researcher.

Abstraction Teacher ask questions on the following:

1. What is random sampling?
2. What are the two classifications of random sampling?
3. What are the types of probability and non- probability
random sampling ?
4. Why is it important to know about random sampling?

Application
Instructions: The students with the same group members
answer through group discussion and then reporting with the
respective representative. And performing the task showing
in illustrating what type of random sampling technique to be
used.

Situation Possible Answer

1. You decide to survey every

10th student on the list and
Systematic random sampling
ask them the organization that
they belong.

2.You assign numbers to the

students of the population and
then use draw lots to obtain
Simple Random Sampling
the gift they will receive from
the leader of the group.

3. Conducting study on the

academic performance of the
Stratified Random Sampling
students from Grade 11
students in Linao National
High School

4. Conduct a survey on the

students in Linao National
High School their ethical
media practices like the
following: be straightforward
and transparent about your Cluster Random Sampling
account and do not use
inappropriate language of any
kind

The performance will be based on the following criteria:

Criteria Points

Teamwork 3 pts.

Clear and having 4 pts.

correct answer

Specific 3 pts.

Total Score 10 points

Assessment Method

ASSESSMENT Write in 1/2 crosswise

Directions: Write true if the statement or situation is true and false if the statement or
situation is false. Justify your answer.
1. Stratified random Sample simulates through simple random sampling
2. the cost is more important than reliability in Cluster sampling.
3. In Simple Random sampling without replacement, the probability of every sample is
equal of each other.
4. Simple Random Sampling is less reliable than the stratified random sampling.
5. Convenient Random Sampling is the sample consists of elements that are most
accessible.

ASSIGNMENT Answer in your notebook

Direction: Give at least one example of a situation where we can use the following
types of random sampling.
1. Simple Random Sampling
2. Stratified Random Sampling
3. Cluster Sampling
4. Convenience Sampling
5. Purposive Sampling

Concluding “You may not be able to control every situation and outcome, but you can control
Activity (optional) your attitude and how you deal with it.”

Group 1: In selecting respondents on the research study entitled “Academic Performance of Grade 11
students with respect to P.E Subject “

Identify the population Answer: From the population of about 120 students in all
What is the Sample of your study?
Answers: We are randomly selecting students of about 25 from every section
- we have 3 samples to be done – Grade 11 sapphire of 25 students
Grade 11 diamond – 25 students
and Grade 11 Ruby – 25 students
__________________________________________
TOTAL of 75 students.

Did the illustrate random sampling? Yes, because of all the respondents have eqaul chances of
being selected as respondents of the study,

Group 2 : In Selecting the members in Supreme

Student Government in Linao National High
School

Identify the population

Answer: Total population of students here in Linao national High School
What is the Sample of your study?
Answer: Every president and vice president of every room
Grade 7 to grade 10 3 sections each level = 6 x 4 = 24 students
Grade 11 (3sections) = 6 students
Grade 12 ( 4sections) = 8 students

Did the illustrate random sampling?

Answer: Yes, because the students have chance of being selected.
-Because every president and vice- president have also selected by their respective
classmates. So therefore, the study illustrate random sampling technique.
