Boiling Point

Equipments/Materials:

 Hot plate
 Thermometer
 250 mL beaker
 Closed and capillary tube
 Liquid Organic compounds
 Small test tube

The activity which is entitled "The Determination of Boiling Points" was done by
the purpose of finding out the boiling points of various organic compounds.

First, the students place a few milliliters of a liquid substance which is water in a
small test tube. Into the test tube, they place the capillary tube.

Next, they clamp the test tube to a ring

stand and dip the thermometer in the said
tube. Then, they filled a 250 mL beaker full
of water and carefully lower the themometer
into the beaker of water.

After that, they began to heat the water and

noticed a few bubbles as the boiling point
approaches. Lastly, when the liquid was
beginning to flow into the capillary tube, they
recorded the boiling point temperature of the
liquid. This process was repeated to other
organic compounds such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, and isopropanol.
