Introduction A. Executive Summary

Reading is a gateway to learning. It brings knowledge and knowledge

brings intelligence, wisdom and understanding.
Every year, the Department of Education marks the school calendar
with a significant yearly celebration of reading month which is every
November. This year, the teachers, school principal, learners, stakeholders
with the reading coordinator joins in the celebration of the Pambansang
Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa. Different activities in relation to reading were
given to the learners. Jazz chants, choral reading, story telling and chamber
theater were some of the activities that were taught to the pupils of our
school.

b. General Objectives:
a. To develop and improve the critical thinking skills of children
through reading.
b. To enrich and reinforce the children’s vocabulary, grammar and
pronunciation.
Actual List of Participant Teachers and learners from kindergarten to grade six.

a. Kick-Off.
On November 7, 2023, after the flag raising ceremony was the kick-off or
the start of this month-long celebration. The School Reading Coordinator shared to
the learners the importance of reading to our everyday lives. Then a mystery
reader read the story entitled “The Lion and the Mouse”. The pupils eagerly
listened. Afterwards, a series of questions were asked to the learners, those who
answered were given prizes.
b. Book Buddy
Reading with partners or buddy reading. Every pupil is paired to his or her
classmate and had fun in reading.
c. Book Talk
A daily 10-minute Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) is practiced by all grade
levels before the first subject in the afternoon.

d. Classroom-level Read-a-thon
A 10 to 15 minutes segments into English/Filipino class periods were
volunteer learners either retell or offer oral interpretations to stories they have read.

e. Culmination of Reading Month

On November 28, 2023, a synchronized reading activity marked the
culmination of the reading. At exactly 9 o’clock in the morning, all the pupils of our
school read. Afterwards all of them proceeded to the covered court for a short
program. They witness the different learners showcased their prowess in different
activities like choral reading, chamber theater, story telling, etc.
