•ANALYSIS
*Oral

From our activity, what have you learned or noticed? The activity was fun ma’am!

Yes, aside from it being a fun activity. At first, we had an activity

called Human Jumble Bee
where we jumble ourselves to
create another word then we
have also written how can we
acquire vocabulary through
speaking, writing, reading, and
listening.

Okay, thank you so much. So do you have any idea All about Vocabulary ma’am.
what our lesson is all about?
Materials for Teaching
Vocabulary ma’am.

Why do you think that our topic is all about Materials It is because of the activity

How so? vocabulary.

What do you think is the importance of Vocabulary? In

our daily life or so?
•ABSTRACTION

Okay, enough with activities and let us proceed

with our proper discussion of Materials for
Teaching Vocabulary.

Now first off, What is Vocabulary? Vocabulary is words that you acquire
ma’am.

Okay, it could be that vocabulary is the words *Student’s Listening

that you acquire. So what really is vocabulary?

Vocabulary is a collection of words and phrases

in a language that all of its speakers understand.
The person uses these groups of words for
effective communication. It forms an integral part
of your child’s reading process.

There are 4 types of Vocabulary. Do you have

Speaking, Listening, Writing, and
any idea what those are?
Reading ma’am

Yes, very good. We have Reading, Speaking,

Writing, and Listening. So the first one is
Reading vocabulary.

1. Reading Vocabulary
A major part of vocabulary building is reading.
This vocabulary refers to the words and letters *Student’s Listening
we can recognize while reading texts. Sometimes
you can identify words used in reading even
when you do not use them in speaking.

So these are vocabulary words that we acquire

through reading materials. For example, reading
a dictionary. The dictionary contains different
words with meanings.

Can you give me another example of reading Book ma’am

materials? News Article ma’am
Yes, books and news articles are also good
examples of reading materials that can help you
acquire and widen your vocabulary.
*Students Listening
Moving forward to the second type which is the
Speaking Vocabulary.

PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
Republic of the Philippines
Camiguin Polytechnic State College
Balbagon, Mambajao, Camiguin
INSTITUTE OF TEACHER EDUCATION
2. Speaking Vocabulary
Speaking vocabulary comprises words you use
while speaking. These words are used for giving
instructions and having conversations.

3. Writing Vocabulary
Your knowledge of spelling heavily influences
your writing vocabulary. This is the type of
vocabulary that represents the words you have to
retain while writing.

4. Listening Vocabulary
Your listening vocabulary comprises the words
you understand through hearing. These are
words we understand when others talk to us

So those are the 4 types of vocabulary. What Reading, Speaking, Writing, and
are the 4 types of vocabulary again? Listening, ma’am.

Moving forward to the 4D’s for considering

materials development for the teaching
vocabulary. We have Diagnose, Determine,
Decide, and Develop.

First off, Diagnose. It refers to identifying the

vocabulary level/size of your students. Why do
we need to diagnose our students' level of
vocabulary?

Next, we have Determine. It is identifying your

student’s interests and learning.

Moving forward we have Decide or choosing

possible learning strategies, materials, and
resources that will help facilitate teaching and
learning vocabulary.

Lastly, we have developed. It refers to making

your own materials or adapting already existing
materials putting in mind the vocabulary
learning activities that will best pursue your
students.

Okay, class. Let’s continue our discussion with *Yes, teacher!

me ask anybody in the room who has an idea of
what the activities and materials are for teaching
vocabulary. Does anyone in the class have an
idea?

Okay, thank you for your answer. So, class, the

answer is right; however, for further explanation, *Students are Listening.
