NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE CONDUCT OF THE SCHOOL - BASED LEARNING ACTION

CELL (SLAC) USING LAC SHAREABLE CONTENTS ACROSS LEARNING AREAS AND
PROGRAMS FOR TEACHERS
(ENGLISH/ PRIMARY GROUP)

Learning needs assessment is a crucial stage in the educational process that leads to changes
in practice, and has become part of the government policy for continuing professional development.
It might seem self-evident that the need to learn should underpin any educational system. In
compliance with the Division Memorandum No. 5, series of 2023 highlighting the call for submission
of Learning and Development Proposals for CY 2023 anchored on the Philosophy on Developing
employees towards Education and Service Excellence, Oas South Central School conducted a 3-Day
School Learning Action Cell (SLAC).
In the said order, schools are directed to conduct appropriate School-Based Learning Action
Cell (SLAC) using the LAC shareable across learning programs for the Teachers. In line with this, our
school included in the Matrix of In-Service Training for Teacher the subject English for 6 afternoon
Fridays equivalent to 3 days. Three active Teachers namely Mrs. Jenevy M. Reniva discussed
Differentiating Teaching Phonological from Phonemic Awareness and Phonics. Mrs. Minerva N. Rinon
discussed Using Combinations of Learning Tasks of Phonological and Phonemic Awareness in
Developing a Lesson Plan. Mrs. Lea R. Rebeta discussed about Understanding Creative Writing to-
Learn Strategies. Mrs. Ma. Consejo R. Merced discussed Revisiting MTB – MLE. The teacher
participants perform their task through groupings and by grade level. They made lesson plans
according to the grade they are assigned.
The Learning Action Cell enriched experience for all participants. This 3 - day workshop
brought together educators, linguists, and language enthusiasts who were passionate about
enhancing phonemic awareness instruction, understanding creative Writing to-Learn and teaching
and learning MTB -MLE.

The transformative impact of the School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) extended beyond the
workshop itself. Throughout the 3 day workshop, participants engaged in reflective journaling,
documenting their personal growth and making lesson plans for integrating phonemic awareness
instruction into their teaching practice. They recognized that the knowledge gained in this workshop
had the potential to positively impact the lives of their students, empowering them with essential
skills for reading, writing, and communication.

The School Learning Action Cell (SLAC)served as a catalyst for change, sparking a movement
towards more effective and inclusive language instruction. It symbolized a collective commitment to
providing every learner with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. With each
educator embracing the power of phonemic awareness, creative writing to learn and learning MTB -
MLE the future of education in the Philippines grew brighter one at a time.
