Equation:
Efficiency (hiệu quả): Efficiency ratios indicate a firm’s ability to use assets
to produce sales. These are also called asset turnover ratios. In general,
higher numbers are a favorable indicator. For days sales in inventory,
however, a lower number is favorable.
Coverage Ratios: For the following ratios, a higher number generally
indicates less bankruptcy risk and (possibly) lower potential return (Đối với
các tỷ lệ sau, con số cao hơn thường cho thấy rủi ro phá sản ít hơn và (có
thể) lợi nhuận tiềm năng thấp hơn)
Leverage (tận dụng)
profitability (khả năng sinh lời): Profitability ratios indicate whether a firm is
generating adequate profit from its assets. In general, higher ratios indicate
better performance.
market value (giá trị thị trường): Market-value ratios indicate how the
market is valuing the firm’s equity. Higher ratios indicate greater
shareholder wealth. (Tỷ lệ giá trị thị trường cho biết thị trường đang định
giá vốn chủ sở hữu của công ty như thế nào. Tỷ lệ cao hơn cho thấy sự giàu
có của cổ đông lớn hơn.)
Chapter 5: The Time Value of Money
5.1 The Time Value of Money (TVM)
- Consuming Today or Tomorrow
- tiền sẽ bị mất giá
- Time Lines as Aids to Problem Solving:
+ Time lines are an effective way to visualize cash flows
+ Cash outflows are negative values, cash inflows are positive
5.2 Future Value and Compounding
- Future Value (FV) measures the value of an investment after it earns interest for
one or more periods (Giá trị tương lai (FV) đo lường giá trị của khoản đầu tư sau
- Compounding is the process of increasing cash flows to a future value (Lãi gộp là
quá trình làm tăng dòng tiền đến giá trị tương lai)
- Single-Period Investment:
FV1 = P0 × (1 + i)
VD1: = $100 × (1 + 0.10)
= $100 × 1.10
= $110
VD2: FV5 = $100 × (1 + 0.10)5
= $100 × (1.10)5
= $100 × 1.6105
= $161.05
= $100(1 + 0.025)4
= $100 × 1.1038
= $110.38
- Continuous Compounding: FV∞ = PV × 𝑒𝑖×𝑛, where e ≈ 2.71828
VD: Your grandmother wants to put $10,000 in a savings account. How much
money will she have at the end of five years if the bank pays 5% interest
compounded continuously?
=>> FV∞ = $10,000 × e0.05×5
= $10,000 × 1.284025
= $12,840.25
5.3 Present Value and Discounting
- Present Value (PV) calculations take end of period cash flows and reverses the
effect of compounding to determine the equivalent beginning of period cash
- Discounting is the process and the interest rate i is called the discount rate
- A two-period model:
- A three-period model:
- Present Value Equation:
- Compound Growth Rates: FV𝑛= PV × (1 + 𝑔)𝑛
