Skelton Parish Council Next Ordinary Meeting is on Thursday
25th January 2024 in Skelton Village Hall at 7:30pm.
Skelton Village Trust Speaker Evening Thursday 1st February
7.30pm in the Village Hall. Speaker historian Catherine Warr. "My
Favourite Yorkshire Women - the stories of four women from
Yorkshire (not the Brontes!) and their contribution to
history" Tickets available from committee members and the village
shop.
St. Giles Opening: Daily between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
Skelton Gardening Club: There will be no speaker in January
when members greet the new gardening year by enjoying a social
afternoon. Our programme of interesting speakers resume in
February when Peter Mathers will talk about Peonies. Visitors and

Skelton Walking Group will be having their New Year walk on
Saturday, 6th January. 5.25 miles around Fairburn followed by a

Mandy’s Community Café We are open for coffee & lunches from
10:30am until 1:30pm 1st Friday of the month. Come and enjoy a
warm place with good company, good food & drinks and good
books. If you are unable to make your own way to the Village Hall,

Mathes "Paradise Revisited" A tour of some of the Royal gardens
of Europe. 8th February, In the village hall at 7.30pm. Cath Snape

Mobile Library in Skelton. The mobile library visits Skelton on
alternate Mondays excl B/Hs. It stops in Fairfields Drive opposite
the shop from 2:40pm until 3:50pm. Borrow books, return books

Village Christmas Tree - thank you to the Village Trust for giving
us the beautiful tree once more and thank you to all those involved
in putting up the tree and decorating it.
Thank you to all who supported our afternoon concert with
Singfonia at Shipton. We raised £400 for St. Giles’ Church. St.
Giles’ Church held their Carol Concert and a collection was taken
for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal. We have sent £86 -
thank you to everyone who donated.
Organist required An organist is required to play at the services at
St Giles’ on our modern electronic organ. The services usually start
at 09:30 each Sunday and last for 1 hour and a small fee will be
paid. If you are interested in this role then please contact Ian

Shipton by Beningbrough Parish Council Meetings are held
in person in the main room of the Community Centre at 7:30pm
on the fourth Thursday of the month. Members of the public are

Shipton Café Reopens after Christmas break on the 9th Jan. A
warm welcome for everyone awaits you at this Café. It provides
a place to meet new people and old friends. The usual delicious
cakes and scones go with the tea & filter coffee. We also play
TABLE TENNIS and Darts, and we always have a jigsaw on the
go. Open every Tuesday from 2 pm – 4.30 Tea / Coffee cakes
and scones. It would help us keep the Café lively and interesting
if you turned up, so come on, you may even enjoy it!
Shipton Cinema is on every 1st Friday. Doors open at 7 pm for
7.30. Bring your drinks & nibbles. If you have any questions

Heads Up Budding musicians: Shipton Space is having
another Open Mic evening on 29th Feb 2024 following a
successful first event in November.
Allotment Plots Now Available in Shipton: We currently have
plots that will be available to take on in January, 2024. We give

priority to Shipton residents for these plots, but other applicants
will be considered from outside Shipton if they are not taken up
locally. The plots are located behind the primary school on
Station Lane, and cost £30 per year to rent with water included.

The Manor at St Catherine’s is thrilled to announce the
success of their recent Charity Craft & Cake Fair, which brought
together members of the local community and raised an
incredible total of £1,000 for Dementia Forward, a local York-
based charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected
by dementia.

Foodbank Collection: Items for the York Foodbank can be left
inside at the rear of the church during any of the daily opening
hours of 11am to 3pm. Groceries of all kinds are welcome, but
no home-baked or other fresh food please. We will ensure the

Parish & Community Newsletter delivery: A new scheme for
delivery of the Newsletter will be on trial from this
month. Instead of letterbox delivery, the Newsletter will be
available for pick-up at the following locations: The small Lych
Gate at All Saints Church, Newton on Ouse Parish Hall, Linton
on Ouse Village Hall, The Dawnay Arms, The Blacksmiths
Arms, Home Farm Cafe, Beningbrough Hall, We’re very grateful
to all these venues for kindly offering their help and support. If
you, or anyone you know, is housebound or unable to collect a
Newsletter for any other reason, please email the church

happily deliver to that person in the usual way. We would
