time of expressing gratitude to God and other
people for what we are given, we look forward to Advent

Newton 6.30pm Evensong our benefice and we look forward to her new ministry in
Shipton and a continuation of her valued work at Skelton.

Sunday 11th November Remembrance Sunday We were reminded of our mortality as we called to mind
Skelton 9.30am Family Communion our loved ones at our All Souls, Benefice Memorial
with the St Giles Singers Service, and then remember those who died defending our

with Methodists at Parish Church on Remembrance Sunday. It is important that we don’t

with RAF Linton on Ouse All Souls reminded us of our mortality but, at the same
time, offered the hope of life beyond the grave, held by

Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion So now we look to Advent – the coming of God to us- the

intervening directly in our world, sending his Son, Jesus, to

love by suffering and dying for us.
Sunday 25th November Christ the King God came to us in Jesus Christ and continues to come to
Skelton 9.30am All Age Worship us, as the Holy Spirit carries on his work, pointing us to
Newton 11.00am Holy Communion God and Jesus Christ, speaking to our hearts and minds,
Shipton 11.00am Holy Communion giving us God’s presence and inspiration.

Skelton Parish Council The next meeting will be held in Skelton Community
Primary School on Tuesday November 13th at 7.00pm. The meeting is open
to members of the public & there will be an open forum during the meeting.
Agendas can be seen on our notice boards or web site (www.skelton-
york.gov.uk) around a week beforehand.
Skelton Gardening Club The November meeting will be held on Thursday
22nd at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. Margaret Morrell will “Demonstrate how to
make easy Christmas table decorations” Guests and visitors are most welcome
at a small charge of £2.
Skelton WI November 8th at 7.30 pm - this will be our annual meeting,
followed by a presentation of photos from the Skelton Village Jubilee Gala &
then social time. The competition is: “a gingerbread man!” All welcome. Please

Skelton Walking Group. Meet on Saturday November 3rd at 9.30am at the
Village Green for a 6 mile walk in the Welburn area followed by a pub lunch in

Skelton Village Trust Speaker & Social Evening - "Magic, Mirth and
Mystery",Tuesday, November 13th at 7.30 pm, Skelton Village Hall. Rex Stott
will tell us about performances given at Concerts & Socials in the 1950s when
he was a boy. His illustrated talk includes magic tricks, gags & comedy routines
& will give a snapshot of social life of the period. An entertaining evening is

St. Giles’ Church Gift Day £2040 was generously donated by the village

Skelton Players Come along to a taste of Wales on Saturday November 24th
at 7.30pm in Skelton Village Hall. Skelton Players will perform “Under Milk
Wood” by Dylan Thomas, the story of one day in the life of a small town.

Messy Christmas Church on SUNDAY December 2nd in the Village Hall,
Skelton from 2 – 4pm. Would you like to be part of the Nativity play this year?
Come along to prepare for our Christingle Service & the Nativity drama. All

Crooking Green Parking – illegal The grassed area opposite the Village Hall is
owned & maintained by the Parish Council on behalf of residents. It is registered as
Village Green & permission may not be granted even by the Council therefore for
parking at any time. Trespassing resulting in deep rutting & other severe damage to
the surface has been reported. Anyone observing this illegal activity is asked to
record details of the offending vehicles, including registration numbers to any
Councillor (see Notice Boards) with a view to prosecution. Please help to keep our
Village looking well looked after & tidy.
Skelton Christmas Cards. The 2012 Christmas cards now on sale. We have a new
picture of the church in the snow. Still £3.50 for a pack of 10 cards & are now on
sale in the village shop or by phoning 470555. All profits go to St Giles’ Church.
Christmas Coffee Morning Saturday November 3rd, 7 Pasture Close in aid of St
Leonard’s Hospice. 10am - 12.30. Christmas cards, diaries, calendars & lots of
small new gifts on sale. Free prize draw. Please support this very good cause

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Shipton Parish Council meet in the Community Centre Committee Room
Wednesday November 21st at 7.30pm.
The Coffee Morning will be held on Saturday November 3rd at 10am at
Shipton Community Centre. All proceeds to Shipton Church. Home baked
Cake Stall, Refreshments, Raffle, Bring and Buy Stall. All Welcome.
Shipton Methodists soup lunches. You are invited to join us for on the
following dates. November 8th & 22nd, December 6th. All at 12 noon & still
only £2.50p. We look forward to seeing you.
Shipton Annual Church Gift Day Thank you to all who were able to come
to and/or contribute to the Church Gift Day in September. We were
overwhelmed by everyone's interest & generosity for our Church. We were
able to raise around £900 which will go to the general upkeep of our
Church. Thanks to one and all.
Holy Evangelists Church - now open all day every day!! The Church is
NOW OPEN during the hours of daylight. Please feel welcome to call into
the Church at any time. Come & take a look around or just sit quietly for as
long as you would like. The Church door has been opened & closed daily
throughout the Summer months by a group of Village volunteers. The
Church will continue to be unlocked during the hours of daylight throughout
the Autumn & Winter months. If anyone can help out with opening or
closing the Church at either end of the day (perhaps while dog-walking),
please call either Mollie (470361) or Kerrie (471347).
The Playground Committee have hired St Crux in York on Saturday
December 15th to raise funds towards the playground. We need helpers
on the day, if you can spare just a couple of hours that would be greatly
appreciated. We need lots of homemade cakes & buns to sell (ingredients
will be reimbursed if required) also, Bric-a Brac & books to sell. If you think

Middleton School Foundation Applications are invited for grants offered from the above
Charity. Grants are available to persons under the age of 25 who live, or whose parents live, in
the Parishes of Shipton or Overton. Grants are available for costs associated with academic or
vocational training. Grants are at the discretion of Trustees & applications will not be considered
for expenditure that has been incurred more than six months prior to the date of application.
Applications must include name, address, date of birth & full details of books, equipment or other
expenditure that is subject of the application, including evidence of the expenditure. Parents or
guardians may apply on behalf of persons aged 17 years or under. Applications or queries to

30th. Applications received after this date will be considered at the next quarterly meeting of
Trustees.

for the Newton on Ouse Parish Hall 100 Club resulted in three winners:

Craft Club at Newton Autumn term of the Craft Club continues at Newton
Parish Hall on every alternate Tuesday (next meeting October 9th) at
2.00.pm.Cost will provisionally be £20.00 for the term, dependent on
numbers attending the initial meeting. A surplus of £26 from previous
funds was split between Children of Chernobyl & the Parish Hall funds.
New & younger members, Skelton & Shipton are most welcome to join our

The Annual Gift Day Coffee Morning will be held at The Old Vicarage on
Saturday November 3rd at l0.30am. There will be a Bring & Buy Stall and
a Raffle, everyone is very welcome. The September Coffee Morning
raised a good total of £130 – thank you to everyone who contributed in
any way
