Skelton Parish Council next meets on Thursday February 28th at 7.p.m.
in the Village Hall (Note - we no longer meet at the Primary School on a
Tuesday) starting with an Open Forum. Agenda details see notice boards

Quiz Night—thank you to everyone who supported the Quiz Night in
November at the Golf Club. We raised £290 for Church funds and £90 for
Children in Need. Carolyn & Jill.
Church Flower Arranging - we are looking for someone to do flowers in
church up to five times in the year. You do not have to be an experienced
flower arranger. If you can help please contact Carolyn tel. 470125.
Skelton WI - Monthly meeting, Thursday February 14th, Village Hall at
7.30pm. Mrs Sue Chadwick will talk on the 'History of the Biscuit'.
Competition: "a Valentine Cookie". Visitors always welcome. Please ring

Coffee Morning: Fundraising coffee morning, Wednesday February 27th

Skelton Gardening Club The next meeting is on Thursday February 21st
at 7.30pm, Skelton Village Hall. Taylors of Bradford will talk on “Clematis
through the seasons”. All guests are welcome at a small charge of £2
Skelton Walking Group Saturday February 2nd. Meet on the Village
Green at 9.30 a.m. Five mile walk around Hovingham then pub lunch. New

Family Fun Race Night - 7pm Sat March 2nd at Skelton Village Hall.
Tickets £3 Adults & £1.50 Children - includes light supper. Tickets

Wintermyer’s Marathon Run in aid of Leonard Cheshire Disability. Raffle
prizes will be needed for this event.
Skelton Village Trust Speaker Evening Wednesday February 13th, 7.30
p.m. Skelton Village Hall. "Gruelling Experiences - Three Centuries of the
Workhouse" - by Peter Higginbotham, author of many books on
workhouse life, including in Ripon and York & contributor to Radio &
Television Programmes. Meeting is open to all & information is on our

Whistle Down the Wind This well known 1961 film, in which a group of
Lancashire children help an escaped prisoner, will be shown in the Village
Hall on Saturday March 23rd. Book the date! More details next month
PHOTOGRAPHERS! Skelton Village Calendar. Don`t forget to take a few
Skelton photographs - Views, Activities and People, in February and following
months for inclusion in the 2014 edition of the Skelton Village Calendar. Let`s

Parking on Grass Verges Severe damage to verges is noticeable due to
inconsiderate drivers driving onto these whilst the grass is very wet. Those
held to be responsible could be liable to pay for repairs. Please keep off
and avoid this unsightly mess spoiling some areas of the village.

Shipton Parish Council meet in the Community Centre Committee Room
Wednesday February 20th at 7.30pm.
The Clerkes Singers will do a choral evensong at 6.30pm on Sunday
February 17th at Shipton Church. Do come along if you enjoy choral music

Coffee mornings are held at the Shipton Community Centre on the first Saturday of
each month. Run by young & willing (!) Village volunteers it is a time for all in
Shipton, family, friends & neighbours to come & have a drink & a chat, using a
Village Community facility. Next Coffee Morning is Saturday February 2nd at
10.00am. Entry is £1, includes refreshments & finishes around 11am after
"Margaret's Raffle”. Home baking stall, a bring & buy stall, craft table & play area for
children. All donations of home baking & produce for bring & buy are gratefully
received. Proceeds are used for the upkeep of Shipton Church & the Churchyard. It
would be good to see you - even just for a quick tea or coffee & a 5 minute chat.
Holy Evangelists Church - now open every day during the hours of daylight.
Please feel welcome to call into the Church at any time. Come & take a look around
or just sit quietly for as long as you would like. The Church door is opened & closed
daily by a group of Village volunteers. If anyone can help with opening or closing the
Church at either end of the day please call either Mollie (470361) or Kerrie (471347).
Shipton By Beningbrough Playground Committee thank all the people who
helped at St Crux in December 2012 by donating items for the Bric a Brac stall, by
baking or by helping on the day,. We raised £764.00 for the playground, it was hard
work but it was a fun day! Margaret Pollard won the Nestle Hamper on the raffle &
Tesco’s donated a gift card to help with food costs. Thanks again to everyone
Shipton Playground Committee: Do your children use the Shipton playground? If
so, please help by putting yourself forward as a Committee member. The AGM of
the Playground Committee will be held at the Dawnay Arms, Shipton, on Thursday
February 7th at 7:30pm, please come along. Further details from Dawn Malloy

Thank you to all who supported the ‘Countries Quiz’ by buying or selling
them. Following a draw the quiz was won by Dot Backhouse from Shipton.
Particular thanks to the Dawnay Arms, Shipton; Londis store at North’s
Garage; Skelton Post Office; Beningbrough Farm Shop & Linton stores
who all helped sell quizzes. £225 was raised for Shipton Church funds.
Shipton Pre-School is a committee-led playgroup with fully qualified welcoming
staff who give full attention to your child. We provide a stimulating environment
where children can play together. We offer activities that are fun, to develop

Toddlers is a lively group for children aged 0-5, meeting Tuesday at the new time of
9.15am to 11.30am. This informal group is designed to help toddlers with their
social skills whilst parents / carers can enjoy play, coffee & a chat. Pre-School &
Toddler sessions all take place at Shipton Community Centre.
Shipton Community Centre has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the Big
Lottery Fund to upgrade the roof & is a first step in improving the facilities for
everyone to enjoy in the future. It is also planned to smooth & re-seal the wooden
floor & this will be phased with the Roof work. Shipton Community Centre hosts
regular activities such as Pre-School, Dog Training, Badminton, Karate, Brownies,
Dance and Music practice, as well as parties, fundraisers and other events. It offers
a 150 sq.m Hall, fully-equipped kitchen, tables & chairs and toilets with a separate
Board Room for smaller meetings. There is ample parking & outside play area. For

Middleton School Foundation - applications invited for grants from this Charity for
under 25s who live, or whose parents live, in Shipton or Overton & are available for
costs for academic or vocational training. Grants are at the discretion of Trustees &
applications will not be considered for expenditure incurred more than six months
prior to the application. Applications must include name, address, date of birth & full
details of books, equipment or other expenditure, including evidence of the
expenditure. Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of persons aged 17 years or

received after this date will be considered at the next quarterly meeting of Trustees.
