Skelton Parish Council Next Ordinary Meeting is on Thursday
25th January 2024 in Skelton Village Hall at 7:30pm. There is no
meeting in December
Skelton Parish Council would like to invite Skelton residents over
60 to a Christmas Party on Saturday 9th December 2023 in the
Village Hall starting from 13:00 onwards. Food, refreshments and
entertainment will be provided. As this is a free event, spaces will
be limited so please register your name(s) by either email to
clerk@skelton-york.gov.uk or phone the Chair on 07764465753.
St. Giles Opening: Daily between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
Skelton Gardening Club: There is no meeting in December. We
meet again in January when we'll enjoy a social afternoon
welcoming in the new gardening year. Our programme of
interesting speakers resume in January. Visitors and new members

Skelton Walking Group: Join us Saturday 2nd December for a 5
miles appox easy walk from Oulston, followed by a Pub lunch . All

Mandy’s Community Café We are open for coffee & lunches from
10:30am until 1:30pm 1st Friday of the month. Come and enjoy a
warm place with good company, good food & drinks and good
books. If you are unable to make your own way to the Village Hall,

Skelton WI: Our Christmas Party December 14th in the village hall

alternate Mondays excl B/Hs. It stops in Fairfields Drive opposite
the shop from 2:40pm until 3:50pm. Borrow books, return books

The Children's Society Annual Box Opening: It is now time for
opening your boxes. Will you please bring them to my house. but if
this isn't possible I will collect them. Your House Box collections
help the Society provide therapy and well-being support for
thousands of children every year. House Box Collections like ours
helped raise more than £1.3 million last year for young people who
need support. I appreciate that many of you have not been using
cash so may not have any money in your box. If you would like to
make a donation you can put it in an envelope with your name on

Christmas Songs and Carols. Let Singphonial start your
celebrations on 10th December at 2:00pm in Shipton Community
Centre. This popular singing group under the direction of Don
Pears will entertain you. There will be a Raffle. Tickets to include
light refreshments £7.50, accompanied children £4.00. Obtainable

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Shipton by Beningbrough Parish Council Meetings are held in
person in the main room of the Community Centre at 7:30pm on
the fourth Thursday of the month. Members of the public are

Shipton Café: A warm welcome for everyone awaits you at this

across the football pitch is the NEW Shipton Wild Flower Woods –
The trees will be planted soon. Open every Tuesday from 2pm –
4:30 Tea / Coffee cakes and scones. Help keep the community
ticking, especially while the pub is closed.

Church opening hours: All Saints’ church is currently open
from 11am to 3pm daily.
Foodbank Collection: Items for the York Foodbank can be left
inside at the rear of the church during any of the daily opening
hours of 11am to 3pm. Groceries of all kinds are welcome, but
no home-baked or other fresh food please. We will ensure the
items reach the Foodbank as soon as possible. Thank you for
helping those in need.
Parish & Community Newsletter delivery: A new scheme for
delivery of the Newsletter will be on trial from this
month. Instead of letterbox delivery, the Newsletter will be
available for pick-up at the following locations: The small Lych
Gate at All Saints Church, Newton on Ouse Parish Hall, Linton
on Ouse Village Hall, The Dawnay Arms, The Blacksmiths
Arms, Home Farm Cafe, Beningbrough Hall, We’re very grateful
to all these venues for kindly offering their help and support. If
you, or anyone you know, is housebound or unable to collect a
Newsletter for any other reason, please email the church
Secretary, janwatkins@allsaintsnewton.org.uk, and we will
happily deliver to that person in the usual way. We would
welcome any feedback, which can be posted on the church
Facebook page @allsaintsnewton. Thank you so much for your
cooperation during this trial period.
Friends of All Saints: Christmas Event hosted by Friends of All
Saints: we warmly invite you to Newton on Ouse Parish Hall at
7pm on Thursday 7th December. The evening's speaker will
entertain us by enacting excerpts from Charles Dickens’ ‘A
Christmas Carol’. This will be followed by Supper, comprising a
main course and a dessert. Please bring your own wine, or
purchase on the evening. Tickets are available from Stephanie
Howe, Sheila Ritchie or Marion Blacker, priced at £15 per
person. Everyone welcome for what promises to be a highly
enjoyable evening. Come along and join us!
All Saints Carol Service: Thursday, 14th December at 6 pm-

All Saints Christingle: Christmas Eve, Sunday 24th December
at 3:30 pm - We look forward to welcoming everyone to join us
for our annual Nativity & Christingle, whether resident in the
parish, coming home for Christmas or visiting friends and family

Poppy Display: A huge thank you to Lindsey Magill, of Little
Bear & Bird Florists, Haxby, for her collaboration with the
community on a project to provide the wonderful display at the
lych gate for Remembrance Sunday. Very many thanks to the
children at Linton on Ouse Primary School, Linton Craft Club
and the many individuals who knitted, crocheted or painted
poppies included in the display. Thanks also to those who
sponsored a poppy and to Mike Tranter who helped mount the
display. A wonderful community effort from all concerned, which
is very much appreciated. Thank you all.
Christmas at the Lych Gate: There will be two Christmas trees
at the lych gate this year. You’re warmly invited to add
decorations to the trees, to remind you of someone you loved,
or of past Christmases. Lindsey will kindly provide the trees and
other decorations.
Gift Day Update: Thanks to those who joined us on 4th
November in church and to those who made online
donations. It costs about £4000 per year to keep the church
open and maintained. So all contributions are gratefully
received. If anyone would still like to make a donation please

Shelf Indulgence Café: There will not be a Café in December.
