WORSHIP CALENDAR
2014 New Year, new-year resolutions –
things are going to be different this year. I
Sunday 5th January Epiphany found a lovely quote recently which said
Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion 'hope is the ability to hear the music of the
Shipton 11.00am Family Communion future and faith is the ability to dance to it
Newton 6.30pm Evening Prayer with choir now'. If you wanted to lose weight – you
would say I hope to lose weight in 2014 but
Sunday 12th January Baptism of Christ faith would be planning your life style
accordingly.
Skelton 9.30am Family communion I heard of a young couple who prayed that
Shipton 11.00am Family Communion
they would have a child but to demonstrate
Newton 11.00am Family Communion
that they really believed that God had heard
their prayer, began to collect baby things.
Sunday 19th January Their hope and then their faith became
Newton 8.00am Holy Communion tangible. They did have a child in due course. I
Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion wonder what our hopes for the future are? -
The theme will be “St Giles”, with a guest preacher That the world may be a better place? Or is it
with the St.Giles’ Singers more personal – that I might get that place in
Shipton 11.00am Family Worship University, that I might have enough money
with refreshments to pay my bills, have my holiday?
Linton 4.30pm Family Service
We hope that the church will grow in 2014 –
Sunday 26th January
grow in being more like Jesus, grow in
Skelton 9.30am All Age Service commitment, grow in working more together
Newton 11.00am Holy Communion with other churches, community groups and
Shipton 11.00am Family Communion people, grow in influence and grow in
numbers. This is a wonderful hope but will
Sunday 2nd February Presentation of Christ in the only actually happen as we 'dance to it' i.e.
Temple work out what it means in practice, which is
really daunting. I am learning that it starts
Skelton 9.30am Holy Communion with the little things just as much as the big
Shipton 11.00am Family Communion
plans.
Newton 6.30pm Evening Prayer with choir
All the very best from us all in this New Year,
Rev Malcolm Wainwright
