2014 New Year, new-year resolutions –
things are going to be different this year. I
Sunday 5th January Epiphany found a lovely quote recently which said

they would have a child but to demonstrate

that they really believed that God had heard
their prayer, began to collect baby things.
Sunday 19th January Their hope and then their faith became

The theme will be “St Giles”, with a guest preacher That the world may be a better place? Or is it
with the St.Giles’ Singers more personal – that I might get that place in
Shipton 11.00am Family Worship University, that I might have enough money
with refreshments to pay my bills, have my holiday?

We hope that the church will grow in 2014 –

Skelton Parish Council Next meets in the Village Hall at 7.30 p.m. on

Skelton WI - Monthly meeting, January 9th, village hall, 7.30 pm. “Views of
York from the Evelyn collection” - speaker: Mr Ian Drake. Competition: A

Skelton Gardening Club. No meeting in January. Meetings resume in
Skelton Village Hall on Thursday February 20th.at 7-30pm. Cameron
Smith will give a talk on “The Orchards of Ampleforth and Husthwaite”.
Skelton Walking Group Meet on the Village Green at 9.30am on
Saturday January 4th. This will be an easy 5 mile walk followed by a pub

1st. Meet at 9.30am on the Village Green for a moderate 5 mile walk

Skelton Village Trust will have a vacancy for a Secretary in the coming

Police Surgery for Skelton Ward The next surgery will be held in
Skelton Village Hall on Thursday January 2nd from 5.00 - 6.00pm.
Residents are invited to come along & talk to our Safer Neighbourhood
Officer, PCSO Grace Lawrence about any issues.
Parish Newsletter Distributers. Your co-ordinator, Jean Lumley, sends

Collection Jar in Skelton Village Shop Many thanks to the staff of
Skelton Village Shop and all who have put their change into the collection
jar for the benefit of St Giles’ Church. A total of £319.38 has been
donated in 2013.
Skelton Village Calendar is available only at the village shop, price £5.00.

Yoga Class re-commencing on Thursday January 9th 2014, 1.30pm -
3.00pm for a twelve week course at Skelton Village Hall. Cost will be £60
for the term, payable at the first class. There are a few vacancies if anyone

Skelton Squirrels Pre-school, Located in Skelton School from 9am to
3.15pm Monday to Friday. We offer a high standard of child care for

More choir members wanted at Skelton Church, every third Sunday of

Dog Fouling is still a major problem especially on The Pasture & Orchard
Field & as nights get darker dog walkers will obviously have difficulty
"picking up" if unable to see where their dogs have visited. For health
reasons, unless in well-lit areas, it would benefit all users if owners would
co-operate by keeping dogs on a leash along the pathway & not allow
them to run freely at this time of year

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Shipton Parish Council meet in the Community Centre Committee Room
Wednesday January 15th at 7.30pm.
Church Opening Times. As we are now in the chillier months, the Church
will be open from Wednesday - Sunday, approximately 9am - 4pm.
Services held as normal on Sunday at 11am.
Coffee Morning - Shipton Community Centre First Saturday of every
month at 10am. Run by volunteers from our Village & is a time for all in
Shipton, family, friends & neighbours to come & have a drink & a chat.
Next Coffee Morning is Saturday January 4th at 10.00am. We can't
promise Starbucks but we do serve with a smile! Bring & Buy, Home-made
cake stall & Raffle. Plus craft table & play area for children. Entry £1 to
include refreshments. Proceeds to Shipton Church & Churchyard.
Tea, Cakes & Chat in Chapel, Thurs, Jan 16th, 2-4pm. Come & join us,

Shipton Pre-School & Toddlers - Happy New Year from Shipton Pre-
School & Toddlers. All enjoyed a fun afternoon at the Shipton Pre-school
Christmas party. They loved the bouncy castle, craft activities & were
greeted by a special visitor in Santa's Grotto. Parents enjoyed
refreshments & mince pies. Thanks to all who helped with the event - a
very successful start to the Christmas festivities. Pre-School reopens on
Wednesday January 8th at 9.15am. Open 9.15am to 3.15pm Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday (extra session now added on Monday afternoon)

Christmas Fayre and the lucky winners were Diane Flower (£30 – number

Linton and District Gardening Club January 24th AGM and Faith

The Christmas Fayre at Newton on November 30th raised £1000 for the
Parish Hall and Playing Field. Many Thanks to all who helped on the day
and to all who came along to support
The Coffee Morning will be held in the Church on Saturday January 11th
at 10.30 am – please do come along and support the event
Thank you from the PCC Members Sincere thanks to all the Coffee
Morning Hostesses. Due to their efforts they have raised a considerable
sum for the Church throughout the year. Also thank you to everyone who
helped with the Church flowers at Festival times or on the fortnightly rota.

It’s Panto Time (oh yes it is!!!) Saturday January 4th at 1.30pm in Newton
Parish Hall. Following last year’s wonderful panto performance in the Parish
Hall, the Playing Field Association is pleased to announce the return, for one
day only, of POCKET PANTO’s production of DICK WHITTINGTON. Join Dick
& his best friend Tommy the Cat as they fight the evil King Rat in this
traditional show. Set sail aboard the Saucy Sal for maritime mischievousness
& nautical naughtiness from Sarah the Cook & her crew! This show is suitable
for all ages & is aimed very much at a family audience. Packed to the gills with
fun, laughter & happy ever afters! So do come along & support what promises
to be a fantastic afternoon. A 2012 audience member wrote, ‘I cannot believe a
panto of this quality is available at my local village hall.’ Tickets £7.50 from
