Skelton Walking Group. Saturday June 6th meet at The Green, Skelton at 9.30am
for 7 miles easy walking along the Aire and Calder Canal and surrounding

Concert by the Tuesday Singers, Friday July 3rd, 7.30pm, Shipton Community
Centre. This is a popular annual event by a very talented choir. The 30+ strong
singers will entertain us with easy listening music sung in perfect four part harmony
under their conductor Don Pears. Tickets, to include wine & refreshments, £7.50

welcome, there will also be a raffle. All proceeds from the evening in aid of Skelton

Police Surgery for Skelton Ward Friday June 12th from 6pm. This will be in the
Mobile Police Office (VW Transporter) which will be parked outside the Village Hall.
Residents are invited to come along and talk to our Safer Neighbourhood Officer,
PCSO Grace Silvester about any issues.
Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every two weeks. As
well as borrowing books and audio books, you can update your library card or York
Card, return books from any other York library, and request books to be brought to
Skelton for you to borrow. The library stops in Fairfields Drive from 2.05pm to
3.05pm and Brecksfield from 3.10pm to 4.00pm. Mondays June 8th and 22nd. For

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS (Cont.)
Book Exchange Rooms for All furniture shop (next to Brooke's garage) is
launching a book exchange service for Shipton and nearby residents on June
6th. If you have any books you could donate for other people to enjoy we
would be really appreciate it if you could drop them off with us (we may be
able to collect if you call 01904 470007 to arrange). We would really
appreciate kids books in particular, but all are welcome. Once the exchange is
up and running feel free to browse the books and choose a new read!
Shipton By Beningbrough Playground Committee would like to thank all
the community that supported the Pig Racing Event at the Dawnay Arms on
April 23rd, we raised £361.50 A special thank you to the Dawnay Arms for
hosting the event, also Nestle, Browns Garden Centre, Toni & Guys
Hairdressers, CakeDream Creations, Tony Huggins &Peter Chapman for
Raffle prizes. It was an excellent night!
Community Centre Management Committee AGM, July 2nd, 7.30pm,
Committee Room, Community Centre. Members of the Committee have been
doing a tremendous job running the Community Centre for the past 10 years.
We are now looking for some new blood, not only for support but for fresh &
innovative ideas. Volunteers urgently needed! Contact our Chair - Drew
Jordan on 01904 470864. The Committee are delighted to confirm the award
of another grant from the Big Lottery Fund. Following our project to improve
insulation of the roof, we have now been granted £9,500 towards upgrading
the toilet facilities, including a new disabled toilet. Work will take place over the
summer & so the Community Centre will close for 2 weeks commencing
Friday July 17th. This is another tremendous boost for the Community Centre
& continues our work in improving the facilities we offer, for everyone to enjoy

Newton Walkers. Fancy a walk with good company & a pub lunch to follow? The
Newton Walkers meet once a month & generally walk between five & eight miles in
the beautiful & varied Yorkshire countryside. Our walks take place on a Thursday &
we meet at the Green in Newton on Ouse at 9.30 to share transport. Dates for 2015
are: June 7/8/9 is our big three day walking holiday, this year based at the Rose &
Crown, Romaldkirk (Teesdale); July 30; August 27; September 24; October 29;
November 26; & on December 17 we’ll plan the programme for 2016, over a

Sponsor a Slate Newton on Ouse PCC has launched an appeal to help raise funds
for the Roof Repair Project. We hope the photographs appearing outside the church
& around the villages will raise awareness not just of the poor condition of the roofs
but also the serious internal damage the leaking roofs have caused. Sponsor forms
can be obtained from inside the church, PCC members or the website
allsaintsnewton.weebly.com. Please give what you can to protect the heritage of
this wonderful building & keep it open for future generations.
Coffee Morning. Please note this month’s Coffee Morning will be held at the
church on Saturday June 13th from 10:30am in conjunction with the Roof Repair
Project Open Day detailed below.
All Saints Roof Repair Project – Open Day Saturday June 13th. Come along to
see what the project will involve, what it will cost & give us feedback on our ideas.
The monthly Coffee Morning will take place from 10:30am & there will be activities
for children. The photos on display around the villages only give an indication of the
damage & why this project is necessary. To fully appreciate it please take just 5
minutes to step inside the church & actually look at what has happened as
the roofs have failed. That will convince you of the urgent need for this project
more than words ever could
Coffee Morning in aid of Motor Neurone Disease on June 27th from 10.30 - 12.30
at Fieldings Barn in Newton. In addition to Coffee and a Raffle there will be Cards,
