1.0 PURPOSE

This method statement provides information concerning the equipment, material and
method of construction to ensure compliance with contract requirements, drawings,
technical specification and quality control

2.0 REFERENCES

3.0 SCOPE OF WORKS

The scope of this electrical services i.e. the Installation of General Lighting is only for
the above mentioned project. This scope mention herein is limited to the installation
of general lighting and all the related works.

4.0 TOOLS & TESTING EQUIPMENTS

The tools and testing equipment in provision as and when required and if
necessary:-

a. Safety gears
b. Electric hand drills
c. Basic hand tools.
d. Bolt, nuts and wall plug
e. Mounting rod or conduit suspension.

5.0 IMPLEMENTATION / METHODOLOGY PROCEDURES

5.1 General Outline of Works

The installation of light fitting shall be carried out after the ceiling installation is
completed where the area is finished with plaster ceiling or suspended ceiling.

For area where the light fitting is installed below the slab or mounted at the wall, the
fitting shall be installed after the area is finished with painting works.

5.2 Light Fitting Mounted on Plaster Ceiling

Generally the type of fitting to be installed at the plaster type ceiling is down light
fitting. The sequences shall be as follows :-

a. The location of the light fitting shall be marked to make sure that the light fittings
to be installed right position.

b. The opening for the light fitting hole shall be made by cutting the plaster ceiling
properly and with correct dimension. Normally the cutting shall be done by the
ceiling contractor.

c. The fitting then shall be properly terminated to the wiring system by using cable
connector.

d. The light fitting then properly install as per recommended by the lighting supplier /
manufacturer. The method of installation shall be either by clamp the body of
the fitting to the ceiling board or by means of the raw plugs and screw type
installation.

5.3 Light Fitting Mounted on Suspended Ceiling

Generally the type of fitting mounted on this type of ceiling is recessed square
fluorescent type fitting.

a. The suspension wire shall be used to support the fitting and shall be hooked to
the underside of the slab or the roof truss.

b. The fitting then shall be properly placed on the ceiling-T bar. The suspension
wire shall be adjusted to make sure that the fitting just nicely rest on the
ceiling-T and to avoid damage to the ceiling –T due to the weight of the fitting.

c. The wiring shall then be terminated to the light fitting by using proper
connection box and 3-core wiring in flexible conduit.

5.4 Light Fitting Mounted on Wall

a. The light fitting type such as wall light shall be mounted to the wall by using raw
plugs and screws of appropriate lengths to suit the weight of the fitting.

b. The actual location of the light fitting shall be determined and confirmed by
parties concerned and the location is properly marked.

c. The base plate of the light fitting shall be use to mark the position to be drilled.
The drill machine then shall be used to drill into the wall using the appropriate
type of drill-bits.

d. The wall plug then inserted to the wall before the light fitting to be installed using
screw and hold it to the wall.

e. The wiring shall then be terminated to the light fitting by using proper connection
terminal strips.

5.5 Light Lantern Mounted on Pole

a. Generally the light lantern shall be installed after the installation of the lighting
pole by using skylift and manpower.

b. The lantern shall be installed either at the end of the arm or at the end of the
lighting pole by using proper bracket as recommended by lighting supplier
such as short spigot, etc.

c. The lantern then shall be adjusted to the angle that recommended by lighting
supplier to achieve the correct illumination level and shall be properly tighten
by bolt & nuts.

d. The proper termination of internal wiring shall be carried out at the cable entry
access door at the bottom of lighting pole to complete the installation.

6.0 TESTING PROCEDURES

All the light fitting installation shall be tested upon completion and when the re is
power supply available. Generally the light fitting can be tested by on and off the
light switch to make sure the lighting are in good condition.

All luminaries intended installed at level exceeding 3.0 meter shall be tested for
function and operation at temporary test station for a duration of 8 hours.

All other site testing shall be carried out accordingly to the specification and
consultant’s requirement and approval.

7.0 SAFETY FEATURES

All operation during this work shall be done in an efficient and safe manner and in
accordance to the Safety Procedures. However there are issues concerning safety
for this work that are to be observed base on the results of the audit, relevant safety
measures shall be proposed and implemented as follows:-

a. Carry out a hazard Identification Audit (HIA) before start of work each day and
before the start of a new task.

b. The material shall be in good condition, clean and free from defect and crack
during the installation.

c. All materials shall be transported by lorry to the site. Upon arrival, the
materials shall be unloaded at identified storage yard, either manually or by
machinery.

d. All material shall be checked and inspected by the supervisor and consultant.
It must be stacked on timber and cover with non-staining plastic sheet.
