17 Circuit diagram 1
Working 1

18 Each point of the wavefront is the source of a secondary disturbance and the wavelets 1
emanating from these points spread out in all directions with the speed of the wave. These
wavelets emanating from the wavefront are usually referred to as secondary wavelets and
if we draw a common tangent to all these spheres, we obtain the new position of the
wavefront at a later time.

v = 2.12 x 108 m/s

20 (i) For points inside the balloon , E = 0 1

(ii) As the balloon is blown up, surface charge density decreases and so electric field on its 1
surface decreases.

25 Labelled diagram 1½

Two important inferences: 1½

(i) The most of the mass and the entire positive charge of the atom is concentrated in a
very small volume of the atom called nucleus.

(ii) The nuclear radius is about 1/10,000 of the atomic radius.

26 (a) Radio waves + correct wavelength ½+½

(c) Uv Correct wavelength + correct wavelength ½+½

27 (i)Lenz's law: It states that the direction of induced emf (or induced current) is such that it 1
always tends to oppose the cause which produces it.

(ii)Direction of induced current in loop is clockwise. Reason: Induced current opposes the
motion of loop away from wire; as similar currents attract, so in nearer side of loop the 1
current will be upward, i.e., in loop, current is clockwise.

(iii)C1 will be clockwise. ½

C2 will be clockwise. ½

28 Drift velocity vd = eVτ/ml ½

Resistance R = ρl/A = ρl/πr2 = ρl/π(D/2)2 = 4 ρl/πD2 ½

(ii) vd becomes double ; R becomes half 1
