What is a good citizen?

A good citizen is characterized by a lot of good qualities that may sound

as ideal as it seems. A good citizen bears many duties and responsibilities aligned with his/her rights and
privileges exercised while living. Furthermore, a good citizen has an enormous love and sense of
patriotism with the willingness to protect his/her Nation at all costs and preserve its culture and good
tradition. Lastly, a good citizen is the one who lives righteously and possess the spirit of camaraderie,
respect, helpfulness, humanity and devotion to all people of any kind and status.
I, Jonathan Vergara, hereby swear to God and to all my countrymen to promote peace and order
by following the law on maintaining peace and order. This can be done through understanding my core
and my values thus, peace and order shall begin with me. I will make sure that misunderstanding amongst
my neighborhood and workmates will be minimized if not totally eradicated. Daily life activities like
observing traffic rules will be followed, the same with waste disposal, curfew rules, health protocols and
others.
Mother Nature will be protected by simply riding on public transportation to reduce the gas
emission from having my own vehicle. I will promote the utilization of reusable bags or paper bags
instead of single use plastic bags. I am proud to be a “Plantito” who helps the atmosphere recover and in
helping lower down the temperature with the plants I take care. Likewise, I observe conservation of
electric energy through turning off appliances and gadgets if not in use. I preserve water through
intelligent use of it in my daily routine.
I do have harmonious relationship with my friends, workmates, classmates, family and to the
people surrounding me. People should be careful with their words because words become actions, actions
become habits, and habits become character. A citizen should take responsibility with their actions
towards others and it can make or break any one. Always bear in mind that what you do to others will
also be done to you.
Finally, it is my responsibility to preserve Filipino good values, culture and good tradition. This
can be done by having to teach or to talk about it to any one and by setting up as a good example. I will
still exercise good Filipino gestures that show love and passion to humankind and to our country. As a
member of the working force, I will work hard and honestly to be able to provide quality service to all.
Philippines will be great if only its citizens are responsible as what Winston Churchill once
mentioned that “The price of greatness is responsibility.”
