OVERVIEW

Biodiversity is the natural world around us, and the variety of all of the different
kinds of organisms - the plants, animals, insects and microorganisms that live on our
planet. In this worksheet, we will identify the importance of biodiversity as a source of
different biological resources and explain the adverse effects of resource depletion on
society and the measures to mitigate them.

Biodiversity is vital for the processes that sustain all life on Earth,
including humans. Without a wide array of living organisms, we cannot
afford a healthy ecosystem that we rely on to provide us with the resources

The United Nations Environment Programme identified major threats to

biodiversity. This includes habitat loss and destruction, alteration in ecosystem
composition, over-exploitation, pollution and contamination, and global climate change.
In order to solve these problems, several protocols were created to safeguard our
biodiversity. Choose one among the Montreal Protocol, Kyoto Protocol and Cartagena
Protocol and create a poster highlighting its aim and purpose. Place your poster in the
