What are the most dominant flower species in South Ruimveldt Gardens?

2
Objectives:

● To determine the ratio of the number of flowering plants to the number of

non-flowering plants

● To outline the factors contributing to the dominant type of flower species in

South Ruimveldt Gardens

3
Introduction
———————————————————————
The idea of having plants as a source for food or medicine as the past population of
humanity used it for mainly those purposes has brought a close eye on the
researcher’s perspective. The collection, description, analysis and drawing of
conclusions from numerical data are all tasks that fall under the preview of
statistics, a subfield of applied mathematics. Numerous applications and
professions make extensive use of statistics. The purpose of completing this
research is to have a better insight on the plants around our daily lifestyle and what
benefits they come with. The researchers plan on investigating these plants and
finding the most dominating species and the benefits of these plants. The
researchers specifically want to find out:

1. To determine the ratio of the number of flowering plants to the number of

non-flowering plants
2. To outline the factors contributing to the dominant type of flower species in
South Ruimveldt Gardens

4
Method of Data Collection
_____________________________________________
The researchers plan on investigating plants from Greenheart Street to High Palm
Street using a tally chart. Every abundant and rare flowering and non-flowering
plant will be recorded on the tally chart the researchers have made. The researchers
will use the help of Google lens in identifying the types of flowering and non-
flowering plants, Google lens is a faster way of discovering new plants with just a
picture being taken of the plant. This technology is advanced enough to be trusted
with the data that will be put into this Mathematics School Based Assessment. In
contrast to conducting interviews or modifying variables using experimental
technique, direct observation involves a researcher simply watching or listening to
research participants.

Analysis of Data
__________________________________________________________
The tally chart in figure 1. Shows the most abundant plants in South Ruimveldt
Gardens with the top three (3) plants being the Indian lotus in first place with a
repetition of 52 the researchers observed that this plant was the most abundant
plant in the area of South Ruimveldt with the dead and awake being in second
place for the most abundant plant with a repetition of 43 it was the only plant
observed with a close enough abundance to the Indian lotus and the researchers
discovered that the third most abundant plant in the area was the golden pothos
with a repetition of 33 it was proven to be the third most abundant plant in the area.
In the pie chart in Figure 2. It shows the percentage of most abundant species in the
area of South Ruimveldt, the formula used is

¿)

In figure 3. It shows that in the area of South Ruimveldt 60% of its plant’s species
are flowering plants while 40% of its plants species is non-flowering

The table below shows the reasons for the specific plant type being the most
dominant flower species.
Flower species Reason
Indian Lotus South Ruimveildt Gardens is filled with many large bodies of
stagnant water, this causes trenches to be filled with Indian
Lotus’s, this is because of the clay soil, this is the exact and
right soil for the Indian lotus to be grown and nurtured in, so it
causes it to be abundant.
Dead and Awake The Dead and Awake plant grows very widely in south
Ruimveldt, this does not need any type of specific soil type
other than the fact it needs large bodies of water, it is considered
a pest due to its growing wildly and sparsely.
Golden Pothos the Golden Pothos is a plant that grows in medium to low
indirect light. They are very easy to grow since it does not take a
lot for them to start sprouting and they generally grow along
with their environment.

Discussion of Findings
_________________________________________________________

Tally Chart: The tally chart indicates the amount of flowering and non-flowering
plants found in South Ruimveldt gardens, ranging from 17 to 52 recording of
plants. With the Crown Flower being the least abundant plant collected and the
Indian Lotus being the most abundant plant found in South Ruimveldt

Pie Chart: This pie chart gives a clear understanding of the percentages of the
most dangerous species the researcher found in South Ruimveildt Gardens. The
researchers used their own formula as it helped make the percentage findings easy.
It is clearly shown that Indian Lotus came first and mango Tree came in last.

Column Graph: A comparison was made between flowering and non-flowering

plants that was discovered in the researcher’s findings in South Ruimveildt
Gardens. It is clearly shown that flowering plants had a greater advantage of being
found.

Table: This table was presented to show the reasons for why the specific plant
type stated is the most dominant species to be found by the researchers. They were
3 dominant species found by the researchers. This is because of the similarities
they have that is clearly stated in the table.

9
Conclusion
______________________________________________

In conclusion the most abundant plants found in South Ruimveildt gardens are the
Indian Lotus coming in with 52 findings, Dead and Awake with 43 findings and
the Golden Pothos with 33 results found by the researcher.
