Time: Quarter:

I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of volcanoes found
A. Content Standards
in the Philippines.
B. Performance Standards
C. Learning Competencies The learner should be able to explain what happens when
Write the LC code for each volcanoes erupt. S9ES-IIIb-28
D. Learning Objectives
Determine the viscosity of some liquids.

II. CONTENT
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1.Teacher’s Guide pages 138
2.Learner’s Materials pages 170-172
3.Textbook pages
4.Additional Materials from
Learning Resource (LR)portal
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
Let the learners review the different types of volcanoes.
A. Reviewing previous lesson
Say: There are primary factors affecting the volcanoes’
or presenting the new
lesson eruptive styles, namely: the magma’s temperature, its
(2 mins.) chemical composition, and the amount of dissolved gases it
elicit contains. How viscosity affects the movement of magma?
Introduce the new lesson (Let the learners read the objective
of the new lesson).
B. Establishing a purpose for the -Show to the learners a video about on Magma viscosity and
lesson gas content.
(1 min.)
Engage
1. What can you say about the video?
2. What is viscosity of magma?
3. Does water have high or low viscosity?
Group the learners into 4.

C. Presenting examples/ instances

of the new lesson - Each group will perform activity 4 in Learner’s
Explore module entitled Viscosity race.
(2-5 mins.) - The group will be given 20 minutes to perform the
activity.
The teacher will provide rubric for the activity.
D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #1
Explain
VISCOSITY
(15 mins.) - is the property of material’s resistance to flow.
- It is described as the liquid’s thickness and
stickiness.
Magma with high silica content is more viscous than those
with low silica content.
- The magma that contains less silica is relatively
fluid and travels far before solidifying.

Viscosity of some liquids

1. Viscosity of water and honey

E. Discussing new concepts 2. Syrup

and practicing new skills#2
(10 mins.)

3. Toothpaste

4. Cooking oil
F.Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment Based on the activity you conducted, compare how these
3)
liquids flow with how you think lava flows. Why do some types
(12 mins.)
Elaborate of lava travel faster than others?
G. Finding practical applications of
concepts and skills in daily The viscosity of a fluid is the measure of its resistance to
living
gradual deformation by shear stress or tensile stress. For
(3 mins.)
liquids, it corresponds to the informal concept of "thickness":
for example, honey has a higher viscosity than water. How is
viscosity related to the surface tension of the liquid?
H. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson How viscosity affects the movement of magma? How is
(3 mins)
viscosity different from density?
I. Evaluating learning
(8 mins)

J.Additional activities for application or

remediation Determine the viscosity of some liquids either it is low
(1 min)
viscosity or high viscosity.

____________ 1. water
____________ 2. toothpaste
____________ 3. honey
____________ 4. chocolate syrup
____________ 5. shampoo
____________ 6. nacho cheese
____________ 7. ketchup
____________ 8. molasses
____________ 9. soft drink
___________ 10. dishwashing liquid

In the activity, you have observed that different liquids have

V. REMARKS different viscosities. If the liquid represents the magma, what
type of magma do you think the Mayon volcano ejects? Why
do you say so? Write the answer in your notebook.
VI. REFLECTION
A. No .of learners who earned
80% on the formative assessment
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson.
D. No .of learners who continue
to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F.What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/discover which I
wish to share with other teachers?
