LEARNING By end of the lesson, pupils will be able to look at the pictures and circle the words to
OBJECTIVES demonstrate understanding of I’ve got and I haven’t got and listen to recording and
identify the correct words

CRITERIA
- Give very basic personal information using fixed phrases
LEARNING I. PRE-LESSON-
ACTIVITIES 1. Stick the flashcards around the room. Say food words at random, e.g. Sandwiches.
2. Pupils point to the correct flashcard(s).
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT-
3. Activity 1:
4. Present and teach have got and haven’t got using the flashcards.
5. Activity 2:
6. Read the speech bubbles aloud with the pupils. Then give them time to look at the
pictures and match. Pupils check in pairs. Check with the class.
7. Activity 3:
8. Play the first sentence. Hold up the flashcards of sandwiches and apple. Pupils point
and repeat. Play the second sentence. Hold out your empty hands. Pupils repeat.
9. Activity 3:
10. Distribute a set of food pictures to each pupil. Pupils each choose their lunch and stick
the pictures on their trays. Demonstrate the activity first. Pupils do a mingling
activity, but they don’t look at each other’s books. They go around the room, taking
turns to say what they have got to find a friend with the same lunch.
11. Activity 4:
12. Distribute worksheets.
13. Exercise 1: Listen and write the letters A–F on the rats.
14. Exercise 2: Pupils look at the pictures and circle the words.
III. POST LESSON
15. Make sentences using the flashcards. Some are true and some are false.
e.g. I’ve got cake, cheese sandwiches and apples. I haven’t got an apple and bananas.
16. Pupils write Yes or No in their exercise books.

LEARNING I. PRE-LESSON-
ACTIVITIES 1. Demonstrate the game. Take, e.g. the cake flashcard, and say I haven’t got cake.
2. Pupils stand up if the sentence is true and sit if it is false.
3. Repeat using have/haven’t got and other flashcards.
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT-
1. Activity 1:
● Pupils look at the picture in their Student’s Book. Elicit what food they can see and
who they can see on the chair (Tommy).
● Pre-teach kitchen, milk and juice.

● Play the recording. Pupils follow the song in their Student’s Books.

● Play the recording again, pausing after each verse for pupils to repeat.

● When pupils have learnt the song, practise it with the whole class.

● Use the karaoke version of the song for pupils to sing in groups.

● Distribute worksheet 1. Play the recording again.

● Pupils match the pictures. They draw lines and then check in pairs.

● Elicit and check.

● Distribute worksheet 2.

● Exercise 1: Pupils number the pictures in the order of the song.

LEARNING I. PRE-LESSON-
ACTIVITIES 1. Display toys picture cards on the board.
2. Give pupils a minute to look at the picture cards.
3. Pupils close their eyes and take one or two picture cards away.
4. Pupils say which items are missing.
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT-
1. Activity 1:
● Pupils look at the picture in their Student’s Book. Elicit what food they can see and
who they can see on the chair (Tommy).

CRITERIA - Understand with support the main idea of very simple phrases and sentences
LEARNING I. PRE-LESSON-
ACTIVITIES 1. Stick the food flashcards on the board.
2. Organise the pupils into two teams and call out sentences about the food you like, e.g.
‘I like ice cream.’
3. One pupil from each team runs out to the board to touch the correct items. This game
works well played with fly-swatters.
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT-
4. Activity 1:
5. Display the chant chart on the board.
6. Read the chant. Pupils listen and follow.
7. Read the chant for the second time.
8. Pause after each line for the pupils to repeat in chorus.
9. Do the chants a class and then in groups.
10. Activity 2:
11. Make four groups.
12. Hand out a flashcard to each group.
13. Pupils do the chant again, standing up and holding up the relevant flashcard when
they say the food.
14. If there is time, get the pupils to practise the chant in groups.
15. Ask them to come up with their own actions.
16. Groups present to the class.
III. POST LESSON
17. Distribute worksheets.
18. In pairs, pupils quickly complete the tree map with food that they like and don’t like.
19. Help pupils with vocabulary if necessary.
20. Display pupils’ work and conduct gallery walk.

CRITERIA - Name or describe objects using suitable words from word sets
LEARNING I. PRE-LESSON-
ACTIVITIES 1. 1. Put flashcards on the board.
2. Ask pupils to work in pairs or small groups and to say the words.
3. Take one or two flashcards away.
4. Pupils say which items are missing.
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT-
1. Clear a space in the classroom and divide pupils into 4 groups.
2. Put the 4 sets of pictures on 4 chairs, one chair near each group.
3. Give instructions, e.g. Put the banana on a table.
4. One pupil in each group follows your instructions.
5. Continue for a few rounds, with a new pupil in each group following your instructions
each time.
6. You can make instructions more complex when necessary.
e.g. Put the apple and the cheese sandwich under a bag, OR Put the sausages under the chair and the cake
on a notebook.
0. After a few rounds, ask pupils to give the instructions in each group.
0. Make sure that different pupils have a chance to do this.
III. POST LESSON
1. Divide the class into 4 or 5 teams, depending on your class size.
2. Ask each team to stand in a line facing the board. Give each pupil at the front of the line
some chalk or a board pen.
3. Write Food on the board and draw a ladder of at least 4 to 5 spaces for each team (at least
one for each pupil in a team).
4. Pupils take turns to write words related to toys.
5. Pupils can help each other with spellings if need be.
6. Each team gets one point for a word which is related to food and correctly spelled.
7. Extension activity: Pupils complete worksheet 1
