Loại I
-Cấu trúc : If + S + V-s(es) , S + will/can/may (not) + V
1.Dùng để dự đoán một hành động, sự việc có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai
Eg: If I get up early, I’ll go to work on time. (Nếu tôi dậy sớm, tôi sẽ đi làm đúng giờ.)
2.Dùng để cảnh báo hoặc đe dọa
Eg: If you don’t do your homework, you will be penalized by the teacher. (Nếu bạn không làm bài
tập, bạn sẽ bị giáo viên phạt.)
Loại II
-Cấu trúc : If+ S+ Ved, S +would +Vo
-Dùng để diễn tả một hành động, sự việc có thể sẽ không xảy ra trong tương lai
Eg: If I were you, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. (Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ không quá lo lắng
về điều đó.)
*Động từ “to be” ở mệnh đề if luôn được chia là were ở tất cả các ngôi.
Loại III
Câu điều kiện loại III là câu điều kiện không có thực trong quá khứ.

If clause Main clause

If + S + had + Vp2, S + would/could/should (not) + have + Vp2

Trong câu điều kiện loại III, động từ của mệnh đề điều kiện chia ở quá khứ phân từ, còn động từ
của mệnh đề chính chia ở điều kiện hoàn thành (perfect conditional).
e.g.: If I had had a million dollars, I would have bought a Ferrari.
TIPS

Dựa vào thì của câu đề bài

Người học có thể dựa vào thì của đề bài để xác định loại câu điều kiện sẽ sử dụng

 Thì hiện tại ==> Câu điều kiện loại 0, loại 1, loại 2
 Thì quá khứ ==> Câu điều kiện loại 3

Dựa vào nghĩa của câu đề bài

Sau khi xác định dựa vào thì, người học phải dựa vào ngữ nghĩa để xác định đúng loại
câu điều kiện. Cụ thể:

 Câu diễn tả sự thật hiển nhiên ==> Câu điều kiện loại 0
 Câu diễn tả tình huống có thể xảy ra trong tương lai ==> Câu điều kiện loại 1
 Câu diễn tả tình huống trong hiện tại ==> giải định ngược lại ==> Câu điều kiện
loại 2
 Câu diễn tả tình huống ở quá khứ ==> giả định ngược lại ==> Câu điều kiện loại 3
