“RELIGIOUS AND SECULAR/NON-RELIGIOUS DANCE”

Festivals may either be religious, in honor of a certain religious icon or secular or

non-religious, in thanksgiving or celebration of people’s industry and bountiful
harvest. Festivals are public gatherings that are hosted for
religious or non-religious causes.

RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL
Religious festivals in the Philippines, known locally as “fiestas,” are vibrant
and spirited celebrations that form the cornerstone of Filipino culture and religious
expression. These festivals are a colorful tapestry of the nation’s faith, heritage, and
community spirit, often blending indigenous traditions with Christian beliefs. They
serve as a platform for Filipinos to showcase their identity, express gratitude, and
celebrate their rich cultural history.
A religious festival is a unique occasion observed by followers
of that religion. Religious holidays are usually observed on a year-
by-year or lunar-month-by-month basis.

SERCULAR FESTIVAL
A secular festival is conducted to celebrate notable
individuals, memorialize significant historical or cultural
events, or re-create beloved folkways. It is a holiday in
which they thank God for the blessings of the things they
have. It is made up of their products, such as the Bangus
festival, and it is a secular event.

Filipinos do festivals primarily to celebrate unity amidst diversity of cultures. The best thing about
festivals is that they add to merry-making and festivities of a place where they are celebrated, the
reason why they are called festival dances after all.
