At the end of the lesson, the Grade 7 learners should be able to:
A. Discuss the origin and cultural background of selected Philippine Festivals;
B. Identify the movements of a selected Philippine Festival and;
C. Create movements of a selected Philippine Festivals.

Abstraction
Festival is a gathering or an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and
framing on some characteristic/aspect of that community and its religion or cultures. It is
often marked as a national or local holiday. Festivals maybe religious or even events
which features poetry, dancing, music and etc.
In celebrating festivals, during the performance, participants played drums
and other instruments in rhythmical patterns that serve as their music during
parades and processions.
Ati-atihan festival – a Philippine festival held annually in January in honor of the Sto.
Niño in several towns of the province of Aklan, Panay Island. The biggest celebration is
held during the 3rd Sunday of January in the town of Kalibo, the province capital.

Sinulog – one of the country’s most famous historic relics. The Sto. Niño de Cebu. It is
the annual cultural and religious festival held in the 3rd Sunday of January in Carmen,
Cebu and the centre of the Sto. Niño Catholic celebration in the Philippines. The word
“Sinulog” means “graceful dance” represents the “sulog” (or current) of a river in Cebu.

Sublian – a two-week long celebration which culminates every year on the 23rd of July,
rooted in the Batangueños devotion to the town’s patron: The “Holy Cross” in Bauan
and Agoncillo, and the “Sto. Niño” in Batangas City. The word Sublian came from the
Indigenous dance of Batangas, the “Subli”.
