Quarter 4
and Time
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content
Standards Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of measure of position.

B. Performance Is able to conduct systematically a mini-research applying the different statistical

Standards methods.
C. Essential Illustrates the following measures of position: quartiles, deciles and percentiles.
Learning (M10SP-Iva-1)
Competency
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Illustrates the quartiles of an ungrouped data; and
D. Objectives
2. Solve quartile value of an ungrouped data using Mendenhall and Sincich
Method.

II. CONTENT

A. Topic MEASURES OF POSITION (QUARTILE)

 Quartiles- are the scores which divides the data into four parts equal
parts. There are three quartiles, the lower quartile Q 1, middle quartile or
median Q2, and the upper quartile Q3.
 25% of the data has value ≤ Q1
 50% of the data has a value ≤Q2
 75% of the data has a value of ≤Q3

Formula for quartile:

 Q1 = ¼(n+1)
B. Key Concepts 2
 Q2 = (n+1)
4
 Q3 = ¾ (n+1)
Where n is the total number of items in the distribution.

Mendenhall and Sincich Method

Remember!
If the Q1, is decimal, round up to the nearest integer. If the Q3 is decimal,
round down to the nearest integer.
