DAY:
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The Learners demonstrate understanding of how gases behave based on
the motion and relative distance between gas particles
B. Performance Standards
C. Learning Competencies/ Investigate the relationship between
Objectives 1. volume and pressure at a constant temperature of a gas
2. volume and temperature at a constant pressure of gas; and
3. explain these relationships using the kinetic molecular theory

B. Establishing a purpose for Engage:

the lesson Directions: Arrange the letters to reveal the word of the day

KTICINE ECULMOLAR ORTHEY

Describe the word.

The kinetic-molecular theory explains the states of matter and is based

on the idea that matter is composed of tiny particles that are always in
motion. This theory helps explain observable properties and behaviors of
solids, liquids, and gases.
C. Presenting Engage #2:
examples/instances of the Directions: Check the squares that best describes the properties of
new lesson gases.

D. Discussing new concepts Explore

and practicing new skills Directions: Read and explain the following.
#1 According to Kinetic Molecular Theory (KMT), the behavior of gas can be
explained by the motion of its molecules or atoms. The five postulates of

KMT can be used to describe the behavior of gas:
1. Gases are composed of a large number of tiny particles (molecules or
atoms) that are in constant random motion. This motion is due to the
kinetic energy of the particles.
2. The volume of the gas particles themselves is negligible compared to
the total volume of the gas. Therefore, the total volume of a gas is mostly
empty space.
3. Gas particles are in constant motion and collide with each other and
with the walls of their container. These collisions are elastic, meaning
that no energy is lost in the collision.
4. The pressure of a gas is the result of the collisions of the gas particles
with the walls of its container. The more frequent and forceful the
collisions, the higher the pressure.
5. The temperature of a gas is directly proportional to the average kinetic
energy of its particles. As the temperature increases, the particles move
faster and their kinetic energy increases.

Note: Guide the learners in understanding the concept

E. Discussing new concepts Explore:
and practicing new skills Directions: Match the descriptions of the Kinetic Molecular Theories in
#2 Column A to the evidence in Column B. Write the letter of the correct
answer.

F. Developing mastery Explain:

I. Evaluating learning Evaluate:

Directions: Identify whether the statement is true or false
1. True or False: According to KMT, gas particles are in constant random
motion.
2. True or False: The volume of gas particles is significant compared to
the total volume of a gas.
3. True or False: Gas particles do not interact with each other or with
the walls of their container.
