Gases (GHG) emissions.

How about adaptation? Actions that reduce harm to living

We all know that these actions are to combat

climate change.

Climate change adaptation refers to actions

that reduce harm to living things and their
environment.

Examples of adaptation actions may include

flood control features, improving storm water
management practices, and updating design
standards to withstand extreme weather, or
communicating with vulnerable populations
on the health effects of extreme heat.

Climate change mitigation, on the other

hand, refers to actions to reduce GHG.

Examples of mitigation actions may include

switching carbon based heating to new
technologies and renewable energies,
making older equipment more energy
efficient, reframing land use patterns to
maximize community infrastructure and
reducing car dependent sprawl or changing
behaviour.

It can be as complex as a plan for a new

community or as simple as improvements to
building heat efficiency. Both adaptation and
GHG mitigation are part of the foundation
essential for managing climate change risks.
