CAMANSI MAYORGA , LEYTE


Before it became an Official Barangay, the Barangay Camansi, Mayorga, Leyte once called
“Baryo Kanlungay” of Barangay Talisay, Dulag, Leyte which is taken from the name of Kanlungay
Isaias Dagamas where his family ancestors originally resident of the said Barangay.

In 1950, it was called “Sitio Camansi” because of the abundant Camansi trees and fruits that
serve as food for the people living here; which is the first “Tinyente de Barangay” was Miguel
Evasco; in 1957 it was turn 0ver to Emelia A. Dagamas and 1962 Breccio B. Leuterio serve as the
Tinyente of the Barangay.

1964 the Barangay officially called as Barangay Camansi, Mayorga, Leyte and the Barangay
captain was Florencio A. Garcia. 1966 constructed in the lot donated by Emelia A. Dagamas the
Marcos type school building for Camansi Primary School and Mrs. Mamerta Lagarto was the
first teacher in the said Barangay.

In 1976, the farmers of Brgy. Camansi and Brgy. Talisay organized themselves into Tal-Ca
Irrigation Association, they use the motor-water pump but when the crude use for the pump
increases they re-align an irrigation taken from the Gibuga River to irrigate their rice fields. In
1979 the LAO Construction started to construct the GIBUGA-RIS Dam of National Irrigation
Authority (NIA) and the construction ended on 1982 and in the same year build the chapel of
the Barangay and Senior San Miguel was the patron given by Mayor Tancinco.

The first Barangay Election conducted on 1982 and Ruben Evasco was the first elected
Barangay captain. During his term 50 meters of the Brgy. road concreted. When Ruben Evasco
run for the position of Municipal Vice Mayor, Gerardo Dagamas serve as Brgy. Captain; but
when Gerardo Dagamas ‘s accident, Breccio Leuterio act as OIC of the Barangay.

1986 the Barangay entered as member of the DORELCO, in 1992, upon the term of Captain
Ruben Evasco build the first Barangay Hall located in the lot of Primary School.

1995-1998 Breccio Leuterio serve as Brgy. Captain and in October 1998 Ruben Evasco serve
again as Brgy. Captain and the Brgy. Day Care Center was build and Ruth Sabalza was the first
Day Care Worker. January 10, 2001 Captain Ruben Evasco died and the OIC of the barangay
was Emilio A. Cula.
2002-2013 of November, Eulalia A. Dagamas serve as the Barangay Chairwoman and during
her terms the Solar Dryer, New Brgy. Hall, Health Center was constructed. The basketball
court, stage and out-post was improved.

October 28, 2013 conducted Barangay Election and Henry Q. Gallaron won as the Chairman of
the Barangay.

November 8, 2013 the Barangay was hit by the Super Typhoon Yolanda and it leave a 94%
totally damaged of the houses . The coco trees was the primary source of income of the
community was 97% damaged. All the Barangay Facilities was damage and the Primary School
was totally damaged also.

November 13, 2013 up to present there are International NGO’s and the Government of the
Philippines help to re-build, re-construct, rehabilitate and restore all the facilities and houses in
the community.
