Catch-Up Friday
January 12, 2024
As pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024, Bukal Integrated National High
School conducted its 1st session of catch-up Friday. It is in line with the Department of
Education’s (DepEd) commitment to deliver quality, relevant, inclusive, and responsive basic
education.
The program provides opportunities to enhance learners’ academic performance,
particularly the low proficiency levels in reading based on national and international large-
scale assessments. These assessment results necessitate prompt attention to address learning
gaps and strengthen the reading proficiency of every learner.
The Catch-up Fridays aim to strengthen the foundational, social, and other relevant
skills necessary to actualize the intent of the basic education curriculum. Its main objective is
to reinforce learning that is why the students’ individual progress will be monitored through
their Reflection Journal, compiled reading experiences, learning, and appreciation of Values,
Health, and Peace Education.
Today’s session served as an orientation to the students regarding the purpose of Catch-
up Friday. Some initial activities were conducted by the teacher-facilitators. The students also
articulated their thoughts through various forms of writing, such as stories, journals, personal
essays, and other forms of creative expression that reflect their unique learning experiences.
The session adjourned with a warm and light acceptance of the students and teachers to
the newly launched program. As well as, some vigor in learning were replenished and observed
during the session.
