Elicit Materials
The teacher will conduct routine activities: PPT presentation,
● The class will stand up and choose a
- Prayer speaker
- Greetings prayer leader
- Checking Attendance ● The class will greet the teacher back in
- Opening song
return.
- Class Rules
● The president or secretary of the class
will report the attendance to the teacher.
● The student will be reminded of the class
rules
-sit properly
- raise your hand if you want to say/ask
something
-Listen, cooperate and Participate
The teacher will review the class of the previous
lesson. She prepared an interactive game for the
students specifically called “FACT or BLUFF’.
● Read each item carefully. Determine
whether the statement is a fact or a bluff.

A series of statements will be shown.

The teacher will ask the following questions: Students will answer:
● The three major parts of the ear are the ● Fact
outer, middle, and inner ear
● Bluff
● The eardrum will stay still when the
sound waves reach it ● Fact

● The outer ear collects sound waves and ● Fact

directs them into the ear canal. ● Bluff
● Once the sound waves reach the ear
● Bluff
canal, they hit the eardrum in the middle
ear. The eardrum vibrates in response to ● Fact
the incoming sound waves.
● Fact
● The ossicles amplify the vibrations and
pass them from the middle ear to the ● Fact
outer ear.
● Bluff
● The human ear can hear sounds as high
as 50,000 Hz ● Bluff
● Pitch refers to the highness or lowness of ● Fact
sound
● Loudness refers to how soft or how
intense the sound is
● The unit of the intensity level of sound is
in Decibel (dB)
● The unit of the intensity level of sound is
in Decibel (dB) which was named after Sir
Isaac Newton who invented the
telephone
● Music is a distorted sound wave that is
not pleasing to the senses.
● Timber is the quality of a sound

Engage
After the review, the teacher will introduce the PPT presentation
new topic to the students and connect it to the
previous lesson.

The teacher will elaborate that Just like in

understanding sound; we will use the different
concepts about waves to study our lesson which is
all about the characteristics of light

The teacher will ask the class: Students may answer:

- Because of the light Ma’am
● Look at the things around you, what
Some students will answer
makes you see these things aside from
your eyes?
● Correct! It is because of the presence of
the visible light. Visible light makes us see
the things around us. But how does light
behave as we see these beautiful
creations?
Explore
The class will be doing a short activity game PPT presentation,
which the teacher will observe and examine. They The students will go to their respective speaker
will be doing a short game called “CHARADES” groupmates and do as the teachers instruct.

 The students will be passing the ball

while the music is playing. when the
music stops, the student who is holding
the ball will be the actor.
 The teacher will give the actor the word
that he/she will act (sun, bulb,
flashlight, candle)
 The rest of the students try to guess the
word being portrayed
 Rotate the role of the actor by passing
the ball again.

After completing the challenges, the teacher will

have a brief discussion about what they learned
by asking:
 Upon doing the activity, what are the
things they have in common? Students will answer the questions:
- Those things can create light Ma’am
 Verry Good! Where can we get light?
A selected student will answer

Explain
The teacher will now have an in-depth discussion PPT presentation
about light

Light

 Electromagnetic wave
 It does not need a medium to propagate
 Travels on a straight path
 Speed of 299,792,458 meters per second
 499 seconds or approximately 8 minutes The students may answer:
to travel from the sun to earth - The sun Ma’am
 A form of energy made of photons (the
smallest unit of visible light)
During the discussion, the teacher will ask the
students:
 What do you think is our main source of
light energy?
 Correct!

Natural source of light

 Our main source of energy is the sun

 The sun is an example of a natural source
of light
 Sun is an example of a luminous body (an
object capable of producing its own light)

Artificial source of light

 Lamp, flashlight, candles, bulb

Isaac Newton

 “Light behaves like particles”

Christian Huygens

 “Light behaves like a wave”

Louie De Broglie
Elaborate
The teacher will facilitate a discussion on PPT Presentation
characteristics of light.

Light
 Form of energy that travels in
electromagnetic waves

Intensity
 Power of light
 It is the quantity that measures the
amount of light illumination on a surface
 PHOTOMETRY- the science of measuring
the intensity or brightness of light.

Brightness
 Qualitative expression of light intensity
 Visual perception in which a light source
appears to be emitting light or a surface
to be a reflection of light
 Luminous intensity
 Is the amount of light that the objects
produce.
 Measured in terms of CANDELA
 The brightness of light depends on how
far you are from the source.

The teacher will ask:

 Observe the following pictures, in which Students answer:
scenario will you see a brighter light? - In picture A ma’am
That’s right! It is in picture A the closer you are to
the source of light; the brighter the light that you
will see.
On the other hand, if you are farther from the
source, the dimmer is the light that you will see.

Take note that the intensity of light depends

upon the amount of light or the number of
photons that pass a certain area or space.

 The intensity or brightness of the light is

also related to the wave’s amplitude

Students may answer:

- The picture A has the brighter light since
it has a high amplitude, on the other hand,
picture B has the dimmer light since it has
a low amplitude.

 Look at this picture, in which do you

think has the brighter and dimmer light
according to the amplitude?
 Correct! The higher amplitude
corresponds to a brighter light while the
lower amplitude corresponds to a
dimmer light
Color
 The color of the light depends on the
frequency or wavelength of the radiation
that reaches the eye

 Visible light is the only electromagnetic

wave that can be seen on the human eye
 The color of the light depends on the
frequency or wavelength of the radiation
that reaches the eye. The student will answer:
 400 nanometers to 750 nanometers - Color blue Ma’am
The teacher will now ask the students:
 What is the color of the light if the given
wavelength is between 450-500
nanometers?
That’s right! When the wavelength of the
electromagnetic wave is shorter than 400
nanometers it is called Ultraviolet and if it has a
wavelength greater than 700 nanometers it is
called infrared.
The students may answer:
The teacher will ask: - The wavelength increases, and the
 Observe the illustration, what can you frequency decreases.
say about the relationship between - Red has the longest wavelength
frequency and wavelength - Violet has the shortest wavelength,
 Correct! Which color has the longest Ma’am
wavelength? - Violet has the highest frequency
 You are right! What about the shortest - Red has the lowest frequency
wavelength?
 Very good! now, which color has the
highest frequency?
 Yes, that’s right! How about the lowest
frequency?
Great! To sum it up, the color white represents the
combination of all the wavelengths of visible light;
while black is the absence of wavelengths.
