I hope you are all well. (Students will listen

the new lesson.)
Listening is the foundation of all effective
communication. When we do not listen, messages
are easily misunderstood. Thus, it is very important
to listen. So, what are you waiting for?
Prepare your pen, your paper and your activity
sheet and find a comfortable place.
B. Establishing the Before we proceed. Let us look into our objectives
purpose of the lesson for today. Through this lesson, we should be able
to:
1. Differentiate hearing from listening.
2. Give feedback in real-life scenarios listened to.
3. Write down the most important ideas in the
song listened to.
C. Presenting examples/ Stimulating Questions: (Students will listen
instances of the new  Do you have a favorite song? attentively)
lesson  How did it become your favorite?
 Was it because of the rhythm?
 Or was it because of the lyrics?
If you find these two reasons applicable, you have
a potential of becoming a great listener.

We hear sounds around us, but it is our choice to

pay attention or to let them pass through our ears.

Therefore, my dear students who are learning, you

must listen attentively. That is why it is mandatory
for you to develop good listening skills.

But before we go to our topic discussion, let’s have

our Pre-Activity to spark the knowledge you know
about our topic.

All you have to do, is to identify the sounds you’re

going to hear. For example:
(The teacher will play a sound of thunder.) Ma’am, it is a sound of
Can you guess what kind of sound it is? a thunder.
You are correct! It is a sound of a thunder.

PRE-ACTIVITY:
Now, listen carefully and write your answer on your
Activity Sheet. Remember, honesty is the best
policy!
The teacher will play the following sounds:
 Rain
 Frog (Students will answer
 Ambulance the Pre-Activity through
 Waves identifying sounds.)
 Drums

Did you get all the correct answer? I hope you did.
D. Discussing new Now, let us differentiate hearing from listening. (Students will listen
concepts and practicing Hearing is an accidental or automatic brain attentively)
new skills #1 responds to sound which requires no effort. It is
one of our physical functions, because it involves
the ears. Thus, this is our ability to detect any
sound around us. Furthermore, hearing is easy
because it is accidental and automatic. It is passive
because it is involuntary and effortless. For
example, we are familiar with the sounds of siren of
an ambulance, the laughter of our friend, the
rattling of pots and pans in our kitchen.
we hear those incidental sounds and we train
ourselves not to give so much attention to them.
Unless we have a reason to do otherwise, we learn
to filter out sounds which mean little to us. Just like
when we choose to hear the ringing of cellphones
and other sounds which are more important to us.

On the other hand, listening is purposeful and

focused rather than accidental. As a result, it
requires motivation and effort. It is active, focused
and requires concentrated attention for the purpose
of understanding the meaning expressed by the
speaker. It is hard because it requires practice and
being alert. It is active because it involves
conscious effort and requires focused involvement.

E. Discussing new Key to Effective Listening (Students will listen

concepts and practicing Furthermore, it also has internal behavior factors, attentively)
new skills #2 which involves the mind and body to be an
effective listener. Here are some pointers to one
must consider:
1. Maintain eye contact.
2. Pay attention and listen for ideas.
3. Find areas of interest.
4. Don’t interrupt and be patient.
5. Resist distractions.

Determining the worth of ideas mentioned in a text

listened to
Now, let's talk about determining the worth of
ideas.
“Speakers can create hundreds of ideas, but not all
ideas are worth remembering.”

To determine the value of an idea, here are your

guide questions which you need in determining the
worthiness of ideas: (Most Essential Questions)
1. What is the topic of the texts you are
listening to?
2. What is the important idea presented in
the text?
3. How is the idea being presented?
4. Is the idea presented worth keeping and
worth sharing with others?

So, what skill do we need to determine the value of

an idea being listened to?

Absolutely! You need to have a Critical Thinking

skill which includes:
1. Observation
2. Interpretation
3. Analyses
4. Evaluation
5. Explanation

People can use critical thinking skills to understand,

interpret, and access what they hear in order to
formulate appropriate reactions or responses.
Therefore, active listener must be a critical thinker.
F. Develop mastery It's time to test what you have learned. (Students will listen

lesson Here’s a simple song to help you understand more
the topic.

Makinig ng mabuti,
Make listening as a hobby.

Critical thinking skills ang i-priority.
