2023 CELEBRATION
CULMINATING
ACTIVITY
In pursuant to Republic Act No. 10556 as Araw ng Pagbasa, the nationwide activity celebration
of reading Month declared in the month of November every year with the theme of PAGBASA: Pag-asa
Para sa Matatag na Kinabukasan. This is to promote love for reading and in connection with DepEd’s
commitment to provide accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education for all and to lay the
foundation for lifelong learning and service for the common good during the new normal set-up of
education.
Reading is basically a life skill. It occupies a high place of significance in a child’s learning and
personal growth. It is a cornerstone of a child’s success in school and indeed throughout life. Reading is
the key to student’s achievement, and to make pupils feel the spirit and essence of reading, Gonzales
Elementary School will give fun activities during Reading Month in the comeback of face to face set-up
of celebration that will mark on every pupil’s mind and heart. Through the initiative of GES reading
coordinators, Mrs. Mariel Millera and Ms. Jenilyn Maiquez, they come up into an idea of giving a new
normal celebration of reading month which is different from the pandemic celebration which is thru
online. The celebration also targets the active involvement of pupils with the guidance of parents and
teachers.
November 7, 2023, is the school-based kick off of Araw ng Pagbasa/ Reading Month Celebration
2022. After flag ceremony short program was conducted. Opening remarks from the school head, Mrs.
Imelda P. Lumbres was the signal to start the celebration. It was followed by the messages from the
Councilor-in charge in Education, Hon. Ramil M. Ilao and School reading coordinator, Mrs. Mariel M.
Millera. Each grade level presented and prepared short presentations that represents the importance of
reading. Pupils wear their character costumes. Face to face celebration, was the mode used to celebrate
this activity. And to end the short program, Mr. Ramil Ilao, PTA president gave the closing remarks.
November 13-17, 2023, Coloring Contest for Kindergarten Grade 3 was conducted, while in
Grade 4 pupils prepared for the box-style costume, Grade 5- Vest Style Costume and Placards for Grade
6. The contest was held in each classroom.
November 20-24, 2023, Grade1 and 2 pupils had their poem recitation. Pupils from Grade 3 and
Grade 4 had their slogan contest, poem making contest for Grade 5 and essay writing contest for Grade 6.
