B. Establishing Motivating Questions
a purpose “Class, before we start our discussion, let me ask you a few questions. What factors
for the do you think influence your personal values and beliefs? For example, in selecting
lesson your circle of friends, what 'must have’ do you consider in a friend? Is it their style
preference? Vibe? Smart? Or you’re more technical on behavior?
Now, for example, what if your friend’s beliefs and life view point are way too far
from your own beliefs and traditions? Will you still continue your friendship?
Well, for us to better understand your own preference, let’s check your judgment or
opinions based on the following Philippine tradition and one common concern
relevant to all of us.
C. Presenting Activity 1. “FILM REEL: ROLLING, REELING, REFLECT”
examples/
instances of
the new
lesson
“Class, this activity is called “Rolling, Reeling, and Reflect!” As you can see, I have here
materials; this is called film reels. This material consists of different common Philippine
traditions or concerns that are evident or familiar to us. The thing here is that I will ask
for a volunteer to roll and reel their chosen film reel box, and the volunteers are just
intended to share their personal thoughts and opinions about the tradition or concern:
whether these traditions are still evident, if they are, whether they are favorable to you,
or you prefer another tradition than it, if it is a concern, will you consider or understand
the root of this concern, or for you it is not acceptable at all.”.
“Alright, thank you so much for your participation. I guess we are all ready for today’s
lesson.
D. Discussing Analysis: The teacher processes the activity by discussing the students’ answers to the
new following question:
concepts 1. Based on the activity that we have conducted earlier, do you think that each of us
and possess different opinions, beliefs or point of view of the different tradition and
practicing concerns?
new skills #1 2. Do you believe that your friends’ opinions and beliefs influence your own judgment
and decisions?
3. What do we call it when we judge based on what we like or our own beliefs? How
about when we judge others based on what we think is right and a “must do”
judgement?
E. Discussing Abstraction: The teacher will discuss the definitions and corresponding key concepts of the
new value judgement specifically about “personal judgment and moral judgement”. The discussion
concepts is aided by a visual aid as teaching materials and interactive discussion.
and
practicing Now, let’s begin our discussion by defining “Value Judgement”
new skills #2 Value judgment is an assessment of something as “good” or “bad” in terms
of one’s standard and priorities.
This happens when you place certain importance, value on an object, event,
or even human behavior.
2. Moral Judgment
This type of value judgment refers to how we see human behavior or values as good
or bad, wrong or right.
This is now base on your value system. How values are instilled and inculcated in you
by your family, culture or society.
Each individual comes with their own set of values and it may not be totally the same
for all because we have different backgrounds.
However, there are universal values that we consider as morally right and wrong,
good or bad.
