Lesson Plan in Mathematics

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students can:
a. differentiates the difference of verbal from mathematical expression through the given
example;
b. translates verbal phrases ton mathematical expressions; and,
c. relates the use of symbol in real life situation by giving examples through recitation.
II. Learning Content
Topic: Translating Verbal phrases to Algebraic Expression
Reference: Gladys C. Nivera Mathematics 7 by Don Bosco Press Inc.2007 pp.186-189
Materials: Cartolina, chalk, board
Values: cooperation
Time Allotment: 1 hour
III. Learning Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Preparation
Greetings!
Prayer
Checking of attendance
Review

B. Motivation
Before we proceed to our topic, kindly group yourself
according to your gender and form 2 lines. Let’s have
a game called translate me action relay. I have here a
piece of paper where the front person will pick a piece
of paper and translate into action what is written on the
paper without using sound which will be seen by the
second person then the second person will also do the
action which will be seen by the third person. Do this
action until it reaches the last person then the last
person will tell his/her guess answer.

Are you ready?

Yes, ma’am.

Brushing teeth swimming

Jumping running
Clapping dog
Sleeping eating
Praying chicken
Crying driving

So, class, based on the game that we had what is the

possible topic for today? Ma’am, the possible topic for today
is about translating.

Very Good!

C. Lesson proper
Class, our topic for today is about translating verbal
phrases to algebraic expression.

In translating verbal phrases into algebraic

expression/mathematical expression, it is important to
know the words that are used to indicate mathematical
operation.

Addition Subtractio Multiplicati Divisio

For example:
Translate the verbal phrase into algebraic expression.
1. the sum of x and y
2. 6 more than a number x +y
3. twice m 6+n
4. the difference of b and 10 2m
5. 9 less than a number B- 10
6. 7 times p n-9
7.the difference of twice a number and 3 7xp
8. 7 divided by 2 2x-3
7÷2

D. Generalization
Class, did you understand our topic for today? Yes, Ma’am.
Now, can you give more examples of signs or symbol
that you have encountered, or you have seen? Ma’am, I have seen a sign of no
smoking which means do not smoke
on that area and also pedestrian lane
which means you can walk without
stopping.

Very Good!
