ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1.What is the level of reading ability of

Grade 3 pupils before the intervention?

2.What is the level of reading ability of

Grade 3 pupils after the intervention? What
intervention can be proposed to help
improve the reading ability of pupils in the
modular learning modality?
INNOVATION
PRACTICE MAKES A GOOD READER PROJECT
ACTION RESEARCH METHOD
A. Participants/Sourcesof Data and Information
The research was conducted at Taslan Elementary School,
particularly for Grade 3 . The section has 19 pupils---7 of which
were boys and the remaining 12 were girls.

B. Data Gathering Method

 Reading Comprehension Activity Sheets for the Reading
ability Tests
 Consent Forms, and
 Reading Ability Drills Answer Sheets.
Ethical Issues:
 To ensure that child protection policy was
followed, parents’ consent was asked before
engagement was done. The data collected were
treated with confidentiality pursuant to Data
Privacy Act. Lastly, proper citation was practiced
in this study.
Data Analysis Plan

The standard that the teacher set was at least

satisfactory performance for at least 3 out of 4 reading
comprehension activity sheets. Those who did not reach 3
satisfactory performances should undergo drills that are
provided in the next intervention program.

For the Practice Makes a Good Reader Project, pupils

need to perform satisfactorily in at least 5 out of 8 drills.
Those who could not reach 5 satisfactory performances were
given additional drills until such time that they will have 5
satisfactory performances.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
A. Findings
Level of Reading Ability of the Pupils
The level of reading ability of the pupils is shown in Table 1 below. Out of 19 pupil-
respondents, 4 pupils failed to show the expected performance in the reading
ability assessment tests. It means that 21% of the respondents need to be included
in the Practice Makes Perfect Project intended for the improvement of their reading
ability while the remaining 79% no longer need to be included in the said project for
they are already proficient in their reading ability.

Recommendations:

Given the success rate of the Practice Makes

Perfect Project, it is advanced that the use home
based parent assisted reading be recommended
for use of teachers who have pupils with concerns
on their reading abilities. By doing so, the reading
abilities of the pupils will be gradually improved
in the new normal set up and with the help of
their parents as reading facilitators in their
respective houses.
DATA ANALYSIS
 The Reading Ability Test revealed that
out of 19 only 4 pupils or 21% needs
intervention in their reading ability.
Hence, Practice Make Perfect Project
was launched to cater the needs of the
4 pupil-respondents. The result of the
project showed that the 4 hurdled the
activities and showed significant
improvement in their reading ability.
Hence, the Project Makes Perfect is
deemed successful.
Dissemination and Utilization

The action research will be sent to different

research forum and journals for possible
publication.
